Taupo 1000 --- MARSHALLS NEEDED ---

Post by Jerry »

Off the NZ4wd Forum, please contact p.a.sutton@xtra.co.nz 0274 952 300 People

Due to uncontrollable circumstances, I need more marshals to assist
with the running of the 2007 Taupo 1000.

I need marshals with four wheel drive vehicles, 2 wheel drive
vehicles or who are willing to help out some of the other marshals
who need extra crew members.

Just so you are aware of what is required I have included excerpts
from the marshal information pack.

Please give Paul Sutton a call on 0274 952 300 if you would like to
help.

There are a number of overseas crews competing, including Ryan
Millen (The son of Rod Millen) in Toyota backed 4x4's.

Visit the website http://www.taupo1000.co.nz to read the press releases.

General Information.
1. Accommodation is each marshals own responsibility. Some
places that offer reasonable accommodation are:
• Rangataiki Lodge and Ranch. 2kms after the track on the
Napier/Taupo high way.
• Rangataiki Tavern. 5kms after the track on the Napier/Taupo
high way.
• De Brett's thermal holiday park.
• Lake Taupo top 10 Holiday Park.
2. Lunches/snacks will be supplied on the Saturday and Sunday.
3. The forest is a very cold wet place at times. Please ensure
you have a spare change of clothes, towels and wet weather gear in
your vehicle.
4. Each marshal point must have a minimum of 2 able people (1
to wave flags and 1 to render assistance if needed)
5. No alcohol to be consumed during racing. No dogs, No guns.
6. There will be a bar and sit down restaurant in the corporate
area of the pits.
7. There will be a large contingent of national and
international TV, radio and newspaper crews around the pits and
roaming the forest. Please conduct yourself professionally and
politely through out the event. You may even be interviewed!

Advanced Four Wheel Equipment Ltd, have donated a Ramsey REP 8.5 E
4x4 recovery winch. All track marshals names will go into a hat at
the prize giving with one lucky person being drawn as the winner.

This is in appreciation from the late Warren Arthur, to all those
behind the scenes people who go out and get wet and cold so others
can turn up and race.
A BIG thank you to Sandy and AFWE ltd.

Race Weekend 7th 8th and 9th of September 2007.
Thursday.
2 pm: Track drive around. Four wheel drive vehicles only. It would
be good for 1 of your team to take part in this or Friday mornings
drive around to familiarize you're self with the track and marshal
points. If you don't have a 4wd I can shoe horn you into one. This
is not compulsory.
Friday.
7am: Track drive around. Four wheel drive vehicles only.
7pm: Drivers briefing at Taupo Golf club .COMPULSORY FOR ALL
MARSHALS
8pm: Marshals briefing (after drivers briefing) You will collect
your gate passes for Saturday and Sunday. You will be allocated your
point for Saturdays and Sunday's racing and supplied with a map on
the quickest route there. I will try to move you all around so that
you are not on the same point for both days.
Saturday.
6.30am: ALL MARSHALS must report to race control in the
pits. There you will sign in (a requirement of the forestry owners).

You will also collect:
• Your lunch vouchers (1 for each person in your team) these
can be presented at the food caravan across the pits from race
control.
• You will also collect your marshal kits, these will contain:
1. blue flag
2. yellow flag
3. safety vests(please advise how many in your "team")
4. 10kg fire extinguisher
5. wire cutters
6. hack saw
7. Car board.

You will then proceed to your allocated marshal point.

The race will not start until you have radioed that you are in
position and ready.

8am: Race Start

Race Finish: When the checkered flag drops, the track remains open
for 30 minutes at which stage Tail End Charlie will go out (2 Quads)
When they get to your marshal point they will advise you of any cars
broken between your point and the previous one. Please notify race
control of the car numbers and approximate position and fault (if
you know what it is) you are then to proceed along the race track
(do not overtake tail end Charlie) recovering any cars you come
across back to LOW LEVEL RD. Please advise race control of car # and
approximate distance up low level rd when you have done this.
Marshal point 8 is to recover cars back to the pits.

YOU MUST SIGN OUT OF THE FOREST BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE DAY!!
OTHERWISE I WILL HAVE TO GO LOOKING FOR YOU BECAUSE I WILL THINK YOU
ARE STILL IN THE FOREST!

It's a pity the link does not work :( :(

Looks like a great event to be involved in, and so close to home.

2 weeks before pay day ... the down side of being paid monthly
