1) how much of the work can you do yourself?
2) Do you understand the maths behind it?
3) Have you seen a coilover conversion it is a lot of work
4) are you prepared to build it more than once they have to be right to work well not close
They are cool and a softer ride but have a huge amount of engineering behind them, but their benifits for the cost of them I dont think I would see them, you could find a coiled chassis modify that and do a body swap for about the same cost as a conversion without the engineering. weight goes up too

see if this guy can get you some pics before he sells it??

maybe coil the rear (using existing arms like range rovers ones are cheaper) but I would stay leaf in the front unless you want to spend ages sitting down with a 3 link calculator calculating all the geometry. I went coils in mine for comfort and road handling and used RR stuff.
The idea of leaf front is so that the axle is more likely to "roll" over an obsticle as the axle travels backwards and up instead of fowards and up.

not saying dont do it there is a lot of reading to do, what do you want to build a 3 link or 4 link rear.
The chassis is pretty narrow too are you going for wider axles? oh and have you thought about the driveshaft, you may need to go for a double cardon for the flex and movement.
I think you need to read up there is no standard way to do them some work in some stuff some dont. looking at a suzuki I think a 3 link would be all you could get under it.
How long is your build window? I would suggest tripple it from the threads I have read some are 3 years and still not right.

Gee everyone is just doom and gloom these days .
Big thing is will it be road legal or not . If not then more fun can be had .
I coiled my 413 when I put the toy axles under it , was doing a crap load of other work so figured why not . The ride is way better . It is on offroad only toy thou . Has a custom made three link rear and uses rangie front arms . I still use standard suzuki shocks as I was not after big flex .
If I was after a quick and easy way without too much thought then I would cut the arms and mounts out of a vitara and mount them in the rear and then just use rangie or prado front arms etc .
The drive shafts will need sorting anyway so easy to fit a toyota ifs front shaft in , they are double card etc and there is a good web site to explain how to increase the angle it can take .
If going custom then there are a few good web sites to read up on on the geometry etc . There are not very many pic's of my coil setup in my album , will see if I have any on the other computer .

Hey Rocko
Sounds like you want to do what I am doing.
Reasearch Reasearch Reasearch.
This is a good article (read all the pages) first one is just an over veiw.
http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/techarticles/suspension/131_0306_four_link_suspension_part_1/
I did a three link rear (A frame for upper link but same sort of maths) I am using range rover rear lower links and front links. Made my own A frame as the guy I bought rangie stuff off didnt have A frame.
I didnt draw mine to scale just moked it up and adjusted as i went. In saying that I think my rear upper link is to close to parrallel with the lower links and the front of it needs lowering. Will see once it goes
the squat / antisquat are prob the most important for launch and climbing respectivley. balance is the key.
Here are some other links i found

As far as links go its easier to buy rangie, patrol, cruiser links than build them. If you can get the chassis brackets to.
Will post pics at some point ( i live in the dark ages and still use a very nice SLR rather than a Digi cam, so need to borrow the olds)
Best things about coil conversion
why not
done right more flex?? (dont want to start a war here)
zero appraoch/depature
gives you something to do while you have young baby at home and cant get a pass to leave the property but can escape to shed
Its always fun to build your own stuff.
Bad things
You 410 will be off the road /track for months
changing spring may as well put in bigger (hilux) axles = bigger tyres for diff clearance = more weight = power loss = need bigger engine (though is more power ever a bad thing
)
OK so only bad thing is truck will be in shed and off the track for months.
There are plenty of builds / articles on zukicrawlers.com and bbs.zuwharrie.com.
reasearch then bite the bullet and do it
Bit more than 2c but my opinion

Yes the thing is it is do able, the time involved in doing it is the big thing but if you enjoy the building and engineering more than the driving (or as much) then go for it.
I have seen both coils and leaves offroad both have their place and coils give a softer ride but I have seen coil's not get as far as leaves and leaves not get as far as coils but in both cases this was possibly more the drivers.
I have also seen standard Toyota front leaves under a zuk (top 4 leaves I think front and 3 on the back) and they flexed very well, but a coil will drop more than a leaf (if the shocks allow) longer springs so spring perches were moved.
Its all good fun remember you will have to post a build thread if / when you do start it! That way we can add suggestions (or those that have gone before can) and complement or comment on your welding

I've done a 3 link out the rear on mine and a 4 link up front. Does need some fine tuning though... All the angles are good its just the coils which were a bit of hit and miss. Rears are Soft top Vitaras (little to hard) the fronts are Honda Civics (little to soft!) It is a lot of work though as everything was hand built...

Looks cool did you use internet calculators to worl out the link lengths? love the engineering behind these custom coil conversions.
How long has it taken so far? and Yep more pic's please, would like to see your links and the pivots at the diff and chassis. Oh and are you looking at getting it certified or a track only truck.

After running it as a standard leaf sprung suzi for a number of years i decided coils would be good for a nice soft ride as i think i'm getting old...
It was a complete strip down right down to every nut and bolt of the chassis then the chassis was stripped back to bare metel (once all the fabrication was done which took quite awhile... (was off the road for around 2 years working on and off as i had the time or enthusiasm)
All the lower control arms are Toyota Suft (coil sprung model of course). Top rear link is custom built A-Arm type with Pajero lower front control arm balljoint attached to give it some flex. While up front it has a custom made adjustable Panhard rod and a single top link with a greasable rod end.
I'll try and post some pictures of how its all mounted soon but its currently parked up and hard to climb under as i'm currently doing a power steering conversion...
Its only a bush / Fun Trial / Club truck and will never be street legal. It's also gained a second set of rear brake callipers for independent brakes since these photos were taken.
