Grease Nipples

Post by New2this »

Tried to grease my drive shaft today (ON THE TRUCK  ) but it doesn't seem to let any grease in. The grease nipples where dirty as hell with caked up grease and I had to wird brush them and give them a good clean before I could get to em so they might be clogged up?
They U joints all have old dirty grease caked all over them, is this to be expected on an 18y/o vehicle? Anything I should look out for/change?

Cheers

some times dirt can get inside them and block them, did you get no grease in :D the reason I asked is most modern universals are sealed and take a very small amount if you pump till you've got grease showing you're pushing the seals out  not a good thing, also don't over do it with the slider or the grease can hydrolic lock it from compressing definitly not a good thing
:D since you wern't able to get any in at all then your gona need to take the grease nipples out and clean out the gallerys not to hard, soak the nipples in petrol this helps to soften them up

Good luck

or new grease nipples are cheap as. a good grease gun puts out more than 40,000 psi, it can usually clear any obstruction .
do the nipples still have the ballbearings on the ends?
