3Y Thermostat

Post by New2this »

Flagged work today and just spend some time on the hilux.
I'm only a newbie so only did little stuff that nice and easy.

Flushed the radiator, blablabla and found a small leak at the block, where the top hose attaches.
I pulled the hose off and went to check the thermostat between that little elbow and the block but its not there? Where is the thermostat on the yoda 3Y?
The leak came from a bugger old gasket where I thought the thermo went, I've now replaced it for the time being with one I made out of cardboard. Is this a really stupid idea?

Cheers
Ryan

yup..

cardboard might be ok for certain oil seal applications, but for water?

me thinks silicon might be a better solution..

another crazy idea is to use a new seal?

 A new seal is of course the best solution, but I haven't any way of getting hold of one today.
I've gone the half-arsed cardboard route as I thought silicon wouldn't hold up to heat. I've only ever used silicon for waterproofing in marine enviroments so I'm not really up with it.
Thames is my closest car parts place and its a overheating hill drive to get there so I'm stuck here till I can find out what to do/order.
