Modified leaf springs ?

Post by Quag »

Just to make it interesting...How about 'parabolic' leaf-springs instead of the standard leaf-pack.???

 just to go against the opinun of the rest of the sheep out there
About a year ago there was a zuk on leaf springs with drop shackles in one of the Aus 4WD mags called "kermit" and it kicked arse!!

think about it before you bin the leaf springs how hard is it to tune a coil spring  ya can't but ya can do it with a leaf spring 8) grind a taper to the ends of the leaves or add/remove a leaf.
how about a bit of lift easy for the leaf just make a set of extended shackles, costs F-all, Hmmm coils :P  how deep are your pockets

Yea go the coils :P :P

Coil spacers. Easily made/cheap to buy.

Cut off coils. Got an angle grinder??

Tunning, well, they can be reset but yeah $$

I'll bet you anything those that have coils are baggin' leafs, and those that got leafs are baggin' coils
Put o coil front end in and stay tuned leafs in the rear :P
money both way, and can't upset worshiper's 8)

 Now thats a good idea keep the front half of the coil Samari and the rear end of the 413 :P  sorry I just had to say it

Philip all I was doing was pionting out, was that the leaf sprung 413 is an option  and baiting some of the coil boys
Things to consider...
Are you going to modify or are you happy with a standard
Your (or your mates  ) engineering ability, do you feel comfortable to take an angle grinder to a set of leaf springs or using a welder, or are you more comfortable with bolt on options
Cost both the money you get for selling one and the cost of future upgrades...

The way I see it...
If your not too engineering savy and cost isn't too big an issue go the Samuri the coils will give the better performance
But  if your after a bit of a project and/or your watching the coin then go the 413, the cost and options are better 8)

Hope this helps

Cheers Reece

Ps the other option is keep both  I've got a coil rover and leaf sprung lux...

:? What ever you want, Rotozuk is putting a Nissan silvia motor into one (see post about "Red toy" in projects), I've seen one with a 22r toyota that went hard... the bonus with the zuk is just about any motor has more power and the body is light enough that you will feel every bit of extra power  :D
If your really keen I've got a Lexus motor sitting doing nothing
Just a word to the wise if your going to go down this path, unless you''ve done this sort of thing before or are lucky enough to know someone who has and they'll help!
Plan on it taking along time :( but it can be alot of fun

I have/had a 413 and the motor in that was reliable , never missed a beat ( smoked rather badly in the end ). I was overseas for a couple of years and I would come home once a year and jump in it and it would start straight up and go , then get left again for another year etc .
Alas I decided to change the motor , this lead to a complete rebuild . Coils and toy diffs etc . Would I do it again , not for anything bar a winch challenge truck maybe .
If you need a new motor get a 1.6 vitara , then play with the leaves . You will get more travel out of a leaf setup for the same dollars compaired to a coil . If you want coils for the comfort , well go the samurai .
