Front d-shaft not engaging

Post by jumper »

When i hooked the vac lines up to the carb and flicked the 4wd switch
no 4wd, so i pulled the low range lever back still no 4wd. So i check to see if low range was engaging pulled forward in 2wd lift clutch and it stalls, pulled forward in low range lift clutch and it keeps going but no movement of the front d-shaft.
Can the vac 4wd switch leave the selector in neutral?

what can cause the front d-shaft not to engage ?

Fj40 82', h55f gearbox, split t-case, vac hi range, manual low range.

Tested to see if both vac solenoids were working and they are. Pulled the vac diaphragm housing to see if all is ok, it looked ok so i moved the rod that goes into the t-case and tried the d-shaft and it would not move.

Bolted up the housing and tried the 4wd switch it will now go between 2wd and 4wd high but if you pull the lo range lever back still no front d-shaft engaging.

What next ?
