Worsleys Spur: Anyone driven it lately?
Worsleys Spur: Anyone driven it lately?
Anyone been up there lately? I'm hopefully heading down in the morning to look at a couple of potential rally cars, and was thinking of poking my nose up there if time permits.

coool rally cars, thinking I would like one, one day but then I could just drive my LR like one and if i fall off the road i can have fun getting back on the road again.
I went up worsleys on the bike the otherday, very very very very dry, so you can drive where you like on/across/in the ruts.
if you txt me what time your going up(when your here) i might venture up on the bike, just live at the bottom so can be up there pretty quick. 021 895515

I've caught the rally bug off my mates who have just built their 1800vtec Honda's and have half talked me into buying one to strip out and potentially roll
Went for a ride with one of them and loved it, we (I say we since I was a passenger
) were fastest 2wd, and 3rd overall, beating wrx's, evo's etc, and it was only his second ever race
Will let you know if I can make it up there

did someone say rallycars?
Heres my dads little project. It goes hard around the autocross track, but its a tad too tail happy since its RWD. We also have an injection system and maybe turbo to go on to replace the crappy old carb (its a good carb, but even good carbs are bad if you know what I mean.
This pic is from picking it up in taupo.

I still don't think you can go past an old Legacy or Leone for a club car. You can pick a late 80's Legacy up for under $2000, so its not hard to throw the interior away, there are parts EVERYWHERE, and they are AWD which is as forgiving as you can get. The turboed engine has plenty of power for a beginner, so you can focus on gettin the handeling sorted out with suspension up grades/braces etc. If you out grow the power one day drop a STI Impreza engine in it. Awesome cars for a beginner.
Other low low budget option is the Leone, as panel work is nothing to buy, people give whole cars away, smaller lighter car, Impreza/Legacy engine and running gear bolts straight up, part time 4WD, you can find turboed ones if you hunt around. Basically they can be turned into a WRX STI with a cheaper shell, but they ain't pretty

yeah all this talk of rally cars certainly makes you think grrrrr. but then i was playing pool before the game last night and they had some rally footage on and when you fall of the road and dig in boy does it end in tears
Full rebuild from one mistake. I'm guessing they are only showing the spectacular ones. But much much less damage from the spectacular ones shown on the trials programs.

Well didnt get to go up worsleys
But had a test drive of a couple of cars.
Had thought of going for the cheap subie, but the guys that run them locally talked me out of a 4wd due to the high costs of running, and the fact that if you want to be competitive you are looking at big $$$ when compared to the 2wd.
I'm looking at the Honda's at the moment, cheap, reliable, and pretty forgiving for poor driving skills, but I too look at the crashes, and you can very easily write off a car with a minor error.
Will have to think about it over the next week or 2, as my GU never eventuated due to the price jumping 6k, and now need something to keep me entertained as I'm getting out offroad once every 3 months

If you want cheap speed thrills you cant go past a dirt bike, soooooooooooo much funCool thing is at least down here they have at least one trail ride a month where you pay $40 bucks max and you get a loop of 50km or so with various levels of difficulty to hoon around as many times as you want. Then there is the rivers. Almost enough fun to give up 4wding altogether
