leeking steering pump

Found a pool of red fluid under my pickup coming from the steering mechanism its coming out of the end the steering wheel attaches to will i just need to get a new seal for it??? if so is it easy to fit????
any info would be great its a solid axle 1990 diesel

it sounds stupid but ive seen a surf leeking in the same spot and i got my mate to go lock to lock and the whole fkn box was loose on the chassis.and cos this had been doin it for sometime it slogged out the splines on the steering shaft :oops: :oops:
