Personaly, I think you would be better to get a couple of hand held PRS units, think Jaycar has some at only $50.00 a pair.
May not be the best range, but at least you will be able to communicate with others when driving too.
The old AM sets are gradualy being phased out by many clubs/users i favour of the FM PRS ones.
Portables will also be handy when you get truck mounted ones, for recoveries etc when you are out of your vehicle. Always good to be able to hear and communicate when out of the truck.

thanks for that Kiwipete, but we have a couple of Uniden UHF handhelds and are not that impressed with them. They almost caused a monumental pileup between my wife and I (very close) because of range/signal issues, I was on point, followed a track for about 300 metres to discover that it was a deadend .. managed to turn around , radioed the mrs NOT to come thru and headed back over a steep blind knoll, only to meet the mrs comming up the other way, thank god I have quick reactions

I know AM CB are obsolete but they have good range

BTW, have a look at this:

Four handhelds for $98, you can't beat that, particularly that these are Unidens.

Hi. I have a GME electrophone AM CB that I've just taken out of the dash. I just got the truck and use UHF so its no good to me. Unfortunately I'm in Nelson, but you can have it for nothing if you have someone that can pick it up for you.
Note: As I've never used it, I have no idea if it works properly, but all the usual lights come up when turned on, and the signal strength meter lights up when the transmit button is pressed.
