This is a fun  job. Took me 3hrs first go 10 mins second time. You will need a long exstention bar with wobble joint if poss (can use uni joint with tape on it if dont have a wobble) also will need tripple jointed elbow. It is easier if you remove passenger front wheel so you can get in for access.
Is only held in place with two 17mm? (i think) bolts.1 is captive nut into housing other has a nut on it. trick is to get spanners / sockets on to them (can be a bit tricky) once on should be fine.

Put a bit of lube on top bolt b4 refitting, tighten bottom bolt mostly then wind in top bolt fully, this is normally easier when refitting.

ok i have replaced starter motor and the new one dose the same thing. the solinoid clicks and the main power wire has power but it just clicks and the lights go dimm on dash. dont get any life from frist one on a bench test, and i dont know if im testing t right so i dont want to incorrectly. test the replacement. the origanal starter had a stuffed armture aswell as worn brushes and didnt feel good at all.

make sure u got a good batt, with starter in vice connect jumper leads, negative to vice and positive to main stud on solenoid. now jump power with a short pice of wire or screwdriver from same main stud to small energise terminal. at this point pinion should throw out and starter rotate. if this dosent happen check brushes and contacts as this is common fault

and good connections also check the solenoid. I had one that the solenoid had burnt up the contacts and insulators inside and was shorting when you hit the starter button
all the current was going straight to earth instead of to the starter moter
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
