fortunately due to their... ummm... familiarity with each other... Goose can just get up in the morning and make Nibby a coffee in bed with it... problem solved... :D

Well, Santa visited today... :)
Image

...got me all motivated, so I emptied the cab out and thought "Wow! What a bloody mess!" :)
Image

Image

So I looked at steering instead... man the steering box mounting will be a doddle with no metalwork in the way...
Image

Then I had a look at how much space I'll have without the inner guard metalwork... Farkin miles of room!
Image
...I think I'll look at narrowing the bonnet and lowering it slightly for better visibility while I'm doing this...

And heres the sexy motor just waiting to go in the hole... so I've done some cleaning up - ahhh... 6 cylinder 5-speed dual-transfer-case motivation :) Gotta love it... more to come...
Image

Image

...hows yours going Nibby? :D

Engine is now sitting in the hole... I've made the plates for the engine mounts, and I'll get the extensions from the chassis to the plates made tomorrow and all buzzed in... (excuse the crappy photo - cellphone camera in the dark)

Latest update is that Rik drank all my coffee, used all my mig-wire and gas, took up my garage all weekend and so I got nothing done :)

Actually I've finally made the engine mounts, and they are tacked in place. I've also removed the rear axle from the bighorn and moved it over behind the Hilux.

On top of that I've worked out where the winch will sit, behind the cab - and I think at this point I can get near-on a perfect straight line for the cable from the winch, to the back of the truck with a pully and hook through a roller fairlead and then straight to the front and through an offset hawse fairlead... details to be finalised.

I'll also mount a couple of batteries behind the cab, and the petrol tank (took my tank out, sat it on the back of the truck and it immediately started pissing petrol all over the floor - seems it has a rust pinhole in the bottom...)

Photos to follow...

Ok, pic-whores paradise... a few wee updates...

The new rear axle assy:

Where the fuel tank will be (roughly):

Brake booster from a later model... note slightly offset design meant slight modification to the firewall with a coldchisel and BFH :) - will mate this with an 80-series master cylinder for better fluid movement...

Engine mounts done:

Steering box - mounting it up:

Thats all for now...

Time will tell :)

Its actually not that far from being a runner... Although I may need to flip the engine and change cranks on it yet so that may slow me down a little...

Its very Prado like, excect for the individual hand brake cables and the mount on top ready to take an A frame. Its 6 stud , not a nissan or prado axle, so its either Isuzu or Mitisi then.

Hmmmmmmm

And Fitzy takes the chocolate fish - although you might just want to go get your own to speed up the process :)

Yes, its an Isuzu Corporate 12-bolt... nice and strong diff - ARB available, and 4.5 ratio same as the Hilux one I'm using in the front. Filthy long trailing arms and wider than a surf rear...

And since I'm wrecking out the Bighorn I just happen to have one sitting there...

Oh, and Its also not Prado as they are offset-diff... :)

coming along nicely, did you just fab up the engine mounts your self ? or are they some other mounts ? and do you happen to know if the M series have the same engine mounts as the 1g ? i have a feeling they are differant :?

One major update, but I'm keeping that one mum for now...

On the engineering front, the engine is in, just in the process of fabbing up the crossmember. Also, steering box mount is finished and painted nice and pretty-like :)

Next step is to start framing up the engine bay to remount the guards and barwork for the front to mount the roller fairlead - and a radiator... might have to do some trimming to make that fit...

PS: Not going to be ready for Sheffield, which considering its full is not a problem at this stage... As far as I know I'm going to be strapped into the passenger seat of Riks slightly modified Hilux with a heavy weight precariously balanced just behind my head :)

At this stage I will neither confirm nor deny that rumour... Closer to completion I may shed some light on the subject.

As for crossmembers, I will be doing a run of about 5 of them... 25mm lifted ones so only any good if you have a body lift... They provide 25mm more clearance than a factory crossmember at standard height, so with the 50mm lift they are a 3" (75mm) lift in the middle of the truck - great for increased breakover angle.

This is one being fitted to Riks slightly modified truck...
