U-Joint Tool

Post by TJ »

Hi, can anybody shed some light on where can I get a tool similar to this

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... mber=38335

in New Zealand? I am not prepared to pay big freight on a tool that is only USD 30.

I have tried all the tool places I could think of, but nobody has something similar.

i spoke to handtool house down here about a kit for removing the jeep balljoints, apparently you need the kit you linked, plus the adaptor kit that was shown in the sidebar..... they quoted me 400$ and there was none in NZ. Took it to wingers and bit the bullet instead.

I don't have a problem with the joints, just wanted to keep it as a trail tool. Also, it would make life easier when changing u-joints (which I am doing as a preventative maintenance soon).

It looks like a modified G-clamp with some various-sized plugs to push the cross-piece? Shouldn't be too hard to make one...

I generally use a heavy rubber mallet and a brass drift to do mine... just as effective unless the joint is really tight...

I thought so too, but its amazing nobody else makes them (or cheaply enough). Powerbuilt has something similar is part of a much bigger kit, which I don't need.

I guess hammer and sockets it is for now. Or may be sockets and a bench vice.

Thanks

get an appropriate sized g clamp and weld a cheap socket to it. you can make a couple for sod all money, and have one for the workshop, one for your rig. they work well, are small and best of all, cheap. :D
