Setting up my old GQ Turbo properly

Post by Roge »

Newb to this forum stuff.
Have had my 88 GQ for about 10 years, fitted a safari turbo and intercooler around 9 years ago. Modified the PTO setup around the intercooler pipes.
Have just fitted an EGT and boost guage. Found that all this time I was only getting 6psi because i never set the wastegate up properly (it was always slightly open before). Fixed that up and it gives 12PSI boost standard. Have also just fitted a boost controller but not sure i need it. 12psi seems ample to me. One thing i noticed is that the EGT is much lower now because of more air.
I had fitted the EGT sensor after the turbo and kept it below 520degC but have today fitted it before the turbo as i saw on one website that you can get as much as a 200degC temp difference across the turbo.
What limit of EGT should i keep it below with the sensor before the turbo?

Because with the extra boost i want to enrich it some.

Hi
No probably not me. I took off my P plate 3 years ago. Still have it and should sell it. "ACRUZA" if you know anyone interested.
My plate starts with DB now. Put on a safari snorkel 9 years ago.
Did a bit more research last night and other forums confirm Paule's figure of 650 degC before the turbo and a figure of 550degC post turbo.
I dont have a boost compensator. Can you fit them to the original Fuel injector pump? Where does one get one from?
