Need Help removing TD27T from a Terrano

Hey having my first dilema,

Spent yesterday afternoon unbolting,unplugging,unattaching everything from motor.

Got me ol mans tractor out to lift motor out,but it seems to be catching on the flywheel and whatever else is in the cltuch area(dont know too much about clutches).

Anyway ive unbolted the g/box-its an auto by the way- and took the gearbox X-member out so that the g/box is resting on the torsion bar X-member and on a jack with a block of wood at the front under the oil pan.

Then i pulled g/box as far back as i can,still cant get motor out.

Ive tried to yank the motor as far forward as i can,untill the fan nearly hits the radiator support and oil sump is hitting the front Diff.

Its so close,i can jiggle motor around in the engine bay,But it still wont come out.

Has anybody any ideas?im starting to get frustrated and tempted to attack the terano with a BFH and a gas axe.

Being an auto have you unbolted the torque convertor from the flexplate??
If you havn't and you've been jiggling it around etc you have probably now stuffed the pump bush in the front of the trans.

ahhh ok,no i havent,any more info please?

edit: so the torque converter is the next 'section' after the motor?and that needs to be unbolted from the actual g/box?

OK, the flywheel, which is actualy called a flex plate in an auto, is what the starter motor engages with and is bolted to the crank of the engine. The torque convertor is then bolted to this. Can't remember on a Terrano but there shold be a cover plate on the bottom half of the bellhousing. With this removed you should see the bolts that hold the torque convertor to the flex plate, undo these, I think there is four from memory, you'll have to turn the engine over to get at them all, once these are undone it should all come out, the torque convertor gets left behind in the front of the auto, all you should pull out is the engine with the flex plate attached. You will have to renew the seal and maybe the bush in the front of the trans as these will now likely be buggered.

ok,so the bottom half of the bell housing gets unbolted then the flex plate from the torque converter is unbolted,

any advice on how the easiest way is to turn the motor over?

A socket and long bar on the main crank pulley

hmmmm. bellhousing is of a one piece construction,no acess plate or removable part what so ever...

Try removing your starter motor, some times you can reach the bolts for torque converter through there.

MMM that was going to be my last resort.its a prick of a part to get off let alone take out a further 4 bolts,guess you gotta go what ya gotta do....right

well that went well considering the prick of a job it is , till i found that the nut on the main crank pulley is massive,going to have to see my mechanic to see if i can borrow a socket of his.its about a 40mm or so and continue on tomorrow night or tuesday night.
