anyone got a pilot bearing puller in Chch ( free beer ) ???

Post by adventures_more »

I yanked my gearbox last weekend to replace my clutch , to find my multi-mass flyweel has 3 buggered springs out of 4 , pilot bearing stuffed ,etc . So after getting my part's & try'n to get this stuffed pilot bearing out of then end of the crankshaft , the outer race is left in the crank after try'n heaps to get it out ( only have basic hand tools here in chch ) !

if anyone has a puller or knows a different way to get it out without damaging the crank , etc & lives in Chch & can pull it out for me , then I will get you a 12 or more carton of beer ( export , spieghts , etc ) ??????????

Cheers
Rick

Buy an electric Dremil grinder from Supercheap, the stones are included in the kit.

not sure that it would be much use, but i have a small compressor you could borrow.

The grease way works well, just use a punch that fits snugly into the pilot bearing

Or if you have an arc welder .. run a bead at a med / high amp inside the bearing case and it will shrink and can be easily removed..

The diegrinder/dremel option is the quickest if the weld option fails.

I ran a weld on mine and it still wouldn't come out so I used a carbide tipped bit on my dremel and cut in half.

Wouldn't that cause it to expand?

No, it srinks, if you heat metal above a certain temp it expands then it shrinks to a smaller mass than it was before you heated it.
Because the bearing is tight in the crank ,it cannot expand, so the shrinking efect is greater.
The only problem is being able to weld on to the bearing race without welding on the crank shaft.

AN EX WELDER.

not enough heat ( amps) dont be tight!! you guys have most of the power stations down there so use it  unless you tried to weld the bearing to the crankshaft ...
