will mount the hooks on the box section next to the roller with crush tubes.

Do you mean on the box that forms part of your cradle?
Why would you bother doing that? If you have to fit the winch to use the tow hooks, what would be the point?
Better off to mount some hooks on material that can fitted into the receivers that you have already made, If a tow doesn't work, pull them out, slot in the winch and carry on.
Looking good though

Yip thats what i meant. They will be if i need to do a double line pull. I will also be mounting tow hooks to two bits of box to slot in to the recievers that can be used front or rear (when i sort out the rear recievers lol)

umm its the original bumper... have a body lift that makes the gap at the top and have removed the bottom bit that unbolts.

You should sell it. wreckers will give you quite a bit for it. the crome ones are sort after. then you could buy the bit of one like mine and probably make some money.

Dude that looks rad, i might half pie steal your idea to mount my winch although i have to incorporate into my bar.

Will you make it so you can mount it on the back?

What about your number plate? just leave it behind the winch? you could be real ganster and chuck it on your dashboard lol

id incoperate you bar into the winch mounting. i plan on putting my bar back on after afew we mods to it. yep still going on the back to. will just put two recievers on the back bar (50x50x5 box) and a bit of angel iron on the back of it to make it nice and strong.

probably won't need the number plate when im winching and you can see it fine when im not lol.

What electrical plug / socket connector did you use?

What electrical plug / socket connector did you use?

Just wondering as it looks like you have a cheaper chinese winch (which i also have) they seem to draw insane amp's (in my case 350A at full pull for a 12v @ 7200lbs)

I did a quick search for trailer plug & sockets but they all seem to be rated to 20A tops. Which i can see melting to a nice little blob of plastic when used in the above operation.

I did some further digging and can get battery plug / socket which handle up to 1000A but they are a tad over kill (and pricey at $35 per connection x 4 for front & rear mount =)

So i was just wondering how u are doing the electric connection plugs / sockets?

Thanks

To get a winch connection to work properly they really need to be bolted together. When they are not the connections get very hot very quickly, as I discovered when working it with a pair of jumper leads.

A warn 9000 lb draws 480amps at full load from memory.

if you look in the top right corner or the pic you will see a gray plug . thats what i used on the surf with a 9000lb superwinch. worked great. rick at 4wd acc did the job so he would be good to talk to about plugs.

I got mine of Hilux happy and as he said he got them of rick. They are 175amp i think. I gave the winch abit of a work out the other day and thay didnt even get warm. I think it depends how long you keep the winch on for. i was trying to use it in short bursts. They are $30 each from repco and rick can get 300ish amp ones for about 40 each i think. Oh and you only need three. on on the winch and on each end.

Yes BRAD HARRISON plugs are what i would use, never seen one fail unless u disconnect when under full load, max rated 350Amps cont, but I think can handle aboul 1000Amps for short periods.

OK now got the plugs sorted... so now on to wiring. What size cable?

I been looking in too it and to carry 350A for 30seconds constant you'd want 50mm mutli flexi cable (welding cable) which sells for about $40 per metre and is thick and heavy as hell.

What did u use pete and others?

Also did you install a kill switch / isolator switch? I was thinking about putting in a

350 Amp Battery Selector Switch Battery #1, #2, or BOTH so that I could select to power the plugs at the rear, front or both or none as a safe guard.

And last but not least… fuses… did u run an inline fuse?

Will post pics of the install as it starts to happen.

After spending some decent cash on the wire / plugs / switch etc im beginning to think maybe I should of got a decent winch – but I guess time will tell on that one.
