tras cooler for 94 terrano

Post by JK »

Hi guys

Recently got an auto 94 terrano with the 2.7dt motor.

Do these vehicles have a factory trans cooler?

If not is it recommended to fit one?

I will be towing a small 3.9m IRB boat with it

Cheers

Your truck won't have one and its a highly recommended purchase if you use your truck offroad or tow with. I have just recently fitted one to my Mistral which is exactly the same as your Terrano, same engine and auto etc.

Hope this Helps

Mike, wher/how did you fit your cooler?
Have you noticed any difference since you have done it?
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

I thought the terranos did have factory coolers, ive wrecked two,one had a remote mounted one.It was fitted infront of the radiator.

The other had one mounted as part of the radiator, get under your terrano, have a look from the front on the intake side, should be two small copper lines running beside where the oil pan mounts to the block....that should be them. They should run into the radiator.

Sorry my post may have confused you guys. Your Terrano will have a cooler at the bottom of the radiator like mine did but they are not overly effective so an externally mounted one in front of the radiator is recommended for extending the life of the auto. From what I gather heat is the number one killer of auto transmissions and an a larger external cooler is the best from of insurance. Cooked Terrano auto's are quite a common sight and an external cooler is considered a must if using it tough, high load offroad conditions or when towing. I have been told it may also take some of strain of the engine cooling system as the radiator is now only trying to cool the engine.

Pete - I just bought a large transmission cooler (designed for a large six cylinder car) and pulled of the cooling lines that would normally go to the radiator fit the new rubber tubes that came with it and positioned the new cooler in front of radiator.
