Prado LJ78 Bearing Question

Post by Disco-Blue »

My LJ78 failed its wof because the R/F bearing needs adjusting apparantly. Has anybody done this and what tools are required.

Also is it possible to replace the front brake pads without having to disconnect the brake lines?

That manual looks pretty handy? does that cover the LJ71 as well? Is it a Toyota manual? ...any idea where I'd get a copy?

thanks old blue, only problem is bleeding nipple is way to tight to get undone and i dont want to strip it so will take it into a garage and let them break it.

Stoopid toyota make the brake system more complicated than it needs to be.

Take the top off the resrvoir, get a pump bottle... change the pads and use the pump bottle to suck the excess fluid out of the reservoir, works on my prado every time... just be careful it doesm't overflow when you squeeze the piston back in...

Thanks bill but i dont see how you can get the old pads out without taking the caliper off plus even if you do get the old pads out you have to get the pistons back in far enough to get the new pads in.

I have sat down for abou an hour with the wheel off working out different way of trying to do it and all require taking the caliper off. To start with i didn't want to have to undo the brake lines but when i tried the brake line connectors were to tight and wouldn't budge.

Id rather a garage break it than me as that way what they break they have to fix.

CHECK THE OUTER EDGE OF THE DISC ROTOR, IT MAY HAVE SO MUCH WEAR THE YOU CAN'T PULL THE PADS OUT.OR THE PISTON'S MAY BE STUCK, IN WHICH CASE YOU'LL NEED TO GET THAT CALIPER OFF.

its usually not very expensive to take your truck in to get the pads swapped, maybe if they tell you the rotors have to be replaced and everything else overhauled it can be :?

Jerry I've got a copy of the toyota RM183 manual that will cover most of your truck (excluding engine), you can grab if you ever need it
