PETROL ENGINE PERFORMANCE

Post by gomulletgo »

PETROL ENGINE PERFORMANCE

IMHO it's time we had a thread with all the factory horsepower/torque figures for engines that may be suited to conversions.

Let's see the figures on supra engines, lexus v8s, nissan skyline engines, V6 commodores, high reving suzuki engines.........anything and everything that could be an option for an engine conversion.

It would also be good to see relative weights of the engines if possible (a figure I struggle to find)

I find answers.com quite good but often they miss the torque figures, making the horsepower figures kind of irrelevant.

So get posting people :)

Factory Hilux figures, borrowed from various sources... note the E at or near the end indicates EFI - if it doesn't have an E, then assume carbed (petrol) or mechanical pump (diesels). G refers to wide angle twin-cam head (performance head) and F refers to narrow angle fuel-efficient head (never heard anyone refer to the lexus V8 and fuel efficient, but there ya go :P)

You kw for the 1kz seams a little low check out the link (not the best site as anyone can edit it but these are about the figures i have from everywhere else)
And with regards to the m series engines you'll probably find they came out in japanese spec eg 6m-geu which was slightly lower power about 127kw and 230 Nm, But it depends on what year and therefore what crank it has are lower power ones are meant to rev higher
I duno... Good info though saves me searching all the time

Only the early ones until 1991, when Jeep decided to make it injected. Block is the same on both so the 4.2l carb one became 4.0l injected. It gained a few kws and torque on the way. You can buy an injection kit and convert the old 4.2l into an injected motor relatively easily.

Spec for the old 4.2l 112 hp (84 kW) 4.2 L straight-6.

Engine codes.
Toyota uses the same option codes across most of its engines.

The first letter is the engine family
The numbers before the first letter is the version number of the engine
(i.e. version 1, version 2, ... , version 18 ...).

After the dash we have the options as follows:
B Dual standard carbs (only used on non-twin cam engines, obsolete code)
C Californian pollution control (also most of the world)
D Uses leaded fuel (Super) when base engine uses regular
E Electronic Fuel Injection
F Twin Cam (economy)
G Twin Cam (sports) with multiple sidedraft carbs (unless EFI)
H Unknown but never combined with -B or -C
i Single point fuel injection
II Unknown - possibly denotes L.A.S.R.E
J Unknown, possibly autochoke, possibly another anti-pollution control
L Transverse mounted engine (only used around 1985 when transverse was new)
LPG LPG fuel
M Phillipines market (details unknown)
P LPG fuel
R Low compression for regular (not super or premium) fuel.
S Swirl intake ports (only a few made in mid '80s)
S Direct injection & swirl pot pistons (starting from '97/98)
T Turbocharged
U Japanese pollution control (introduction of "U"nleaded?).
Engine uses TTC-C, TTC-L or TTC-V.
Z Supercharged

Gearboxes
K40 alloy 4 speed manual, usually behind K engines
K50 alloy 5 speed manual, usually behind K engines
T40 alloy 4 speed manual, usually behind T engines
T50 alloy 5 speed manual, usually behind T engines.
W40 steel 4 speed manual, usually behind R and M engines
W42 4 speed manual
W45 alloy 4 speed manual, behind Rand T engines
W50 steel 5 speed manual, usually behind R, M and early 1G engines
W51 steel 5 speed manual, usually behind later R and M engines
W52 5 speed manual
W55 alloy 5 speed manual, behind R and turbo T engines
W56 alloy 5 speed manual
W57 alloy 5 speed manual, behind G engines (Supra, Cressida)
W58 alloy 5 speed manual, behind M engines (Supra, Cressida)
L52 5 speed manual, usually behind K, R and L engines in 4WD vehicles
A1xxF 4WD auto

Compatibility

W series gearboxes have a separate bellhousing.
Different bellhousings are used to connect a W50 gearbox to an R or M series engine.
Different bellhousings are used to connect a W55 gearbox to an R or T series engine.
Alloy W5# gearboxes are interchangeable with each other.
Alloy and steel W5# gearboxes are not interchangeable with each other.
W50 bellhousings do not fit the W55 gearbox and vice versa.
W55 bellhousings do fit the W56 and W57 gearboxes and vice versa.
W58 bellhousings are only compatible with W58 gearboxes.

Holden commodore VN:

3.8 litre V6 125KW (168HP) 292NM@3600RPM

3.8 litre V6 Series II (EV6) 127KW (170HP) 293NM@3600RPM

5.0 litre V8 165KW (221HP) 385NM@3600RPM

Holden commodore VT ->:

5.7 litre V8 (LS1) 220KW (295HP) -> 250KW (335HP) through later models

Any help with torque figures for the LS1 would be great :)

Edit: updated figures (thanks steve :D )
