1JZGTE swap

Post by muzz »

Hi all, just finished doing my supra swap into my LJ71, its running great other than the smoke out the tail pipe.Just thorght i would check with other people that have gone from diesel to petrol how long it was before it cleared up as the supplyer of the motor say theres nothing wrong with it but when i hit the gas i get a puff of blue and when i button off i get a long cloud of white, I have filled it twice now and would of thought that was enuf to clear it. Warrenty runs out in a week so want to get it sorted before its to late.

Cheers for any help

If you want to know for sure then get a long length of fuel hose and put a jerry can of petrol in the back then go for a drive...

Diesel residue can hang around in the tank for ages - I would think waaay more than just 2 fills... how clean and empty was it before you switched?

Hi Steve

Empted the tank with the drain plug, chucked 20ltrs in then left it with the pump going to mix the fuel up for 30min,drained then two full tanks and just started the 3rd.

Drained half the 2nd tank today and put it into my falcon that was almost out of fuel and no smoke so made me think maybe not fuel but motor.
So is blue and white smoke normal until the last of diesel gone ???

Cheers Jason

Hmmm... no that sounds like a pretty good cleanout - and having checked the fuel in another vehicle then I'd be following the other lines suggested here... its most likely going to be something engine related - but might not be a terminal issue, could just be a plumbing thing...

Hi Tony, Yeah can wait to get out there again way beter than with the old diesel in it LOL, The PCV valve wasn't hooked up to the intake i had it on a after market breather. It only smokes when up to running temp.

Had a local supra guru come and have a look and said it maybe valve guides???? , found out yesterday that theres also water and oil mix on the oil filler cap so maybe time to give it back and get a replacement motor.

If its from an importer isn't it under warranty? how long have you had it? how many k's has it done? Did you buy it personally or through a business?

Yeah its from a importer and under warrenty but he wont replace it yet, he wants me to send it to him and they will stip it down send it to a engine recon place to find out what if anything is wrong then decide to fix/replace or refund, had motor for 5 mths but was under warrenty for 3 mths and its only been running for the last 3 weeks, was sold as a complete conversion kit but was missing some major parts to make it run so i made him extended the warrenty until he got the missing parts to me, got it off i buisiness in Auckland and i am in Taupo and after the talk i had with him and his attitude i wouldnt hold much hope of getting my motor back any time soon if i did send it. :?

I took the guy who supplied and fitted the 1KZ-TE to my truck to disputes tribunal. They put it under the consumer gaurantees act. The motor didn'[t run right from day 1.

Yeah was a bit worried about something along those lines happening, Should do as WJW did and see what can be done under the consumer gaurantees act. Will give him a e-mail to day and see what happens next  [/list]

It is his warranty, you will have to send it back to him to have any real chance with consumer guarantees.

He has given you a process he wants you to follow and this is all he has to do, you have to follow that process. If he comes back to you saying you have caused the damage you can ask for another independent company to look at the engine to verify it but it has to go through his process first, if he declines warranty ask for him to return the engine to you so you can have it inspected keep the serial numbers in case, also advise him that he cannot repair it at your cost any repair is under warranty if not covered you want the engine back for independant inspection (I SUGGEST THE ENGINE BACK FOR INDEPENDANT INSPECTION).

Most likley it will have been sitting too long between the time you have been waiting and the time it was removed fron the original car and as the Guru suggested valve guides have stuck or split.

As soon as he states it is not warranty you can pull it down to prove your case without voiding the warranty.

You do have to be carefull and you can put a reasonable time line on the work to be done too (transport time time plus to inspect and return time) and say you expect to hear from him by X date with a verdict.

WARNING: GET IT CHECKED LOCALLY FIRST!

Don't just send it back to him - he could do anything to it or with it... you need an independant check on the engines condition before you return it to him.

Don't let go of this one - there are too many people bringing engines in from Jappers and then just flicking them off without worrying about the consequenses - they have hundreds of excuses as to why the engine might not be right, most of them your fault... but keep on at him. Don't threaten, just be persistent.
