Marvies ... waipoua access

Hey everyone being a surfer i found my cars getting pretty messed up driving around places such as redrocks in welly and ahipara/shipwreck bay in the far north so got myself a 1993 mazda marvie, are these conciderd good 4wd's or what? seems bloody solid vehicle to me!

Also If anyone is familiar with the waipoua forrest is there any other ways to kawerua other then getting that maori guy to open up the gate, from what i can tell that stretch of beach after the bluff up baylies looks like a good bet but it has the river coming out there somewhere is it easy to cross (like muriwai river)? also whats the sand like dont wanna be getting stuck!
