the plan is the wife will drive it the most as i dont trust the small car we have at the mo. and that if i drive it ill brake it.

plan for truck is to get it over here with front and rear diff locks allready in, lifted 2-3 inch max a any higher and the wife wont be able to lift in the babie.

side bars are a must along with the snokel.
AT for the tread to start off with, ( to keep me at by )
MT on second set of rims after a year .

the truck will be set up for grade 3 trips as im not allowed to go any harder, and i wont to be able to take wife and kid out too.

What ever you do get a manual one, we just did a manual conversion on my parents 80 series and I drove it to blenheim for them today. You cant compare it to the auto and before you say your lazy and prefer auto. I hardly had to change gear, 5th most the time, 4th hardly ever, passing in 5th. Its a different truck all together.

it took a few full days to get it done. Its not worth converting unless you have blown ya auto and have to replace it anyway

Go for the 24 valve diesel.
The early 4.2 TURBO (and only the turbo's) had dodgy engine bearings from new. Toyota acknowledge the problem, but these trucks are now 14-17 years old, so they don't give a shit anymore.
The 24 valve engine is very good though, and the 80 series is a good solid rig.
And before all the nissan owners jump up and say their bit, How much can you get for a 90-95 Nissan saf or patrol?
You get what you pay for!
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
