Im with Mike, he has had some practical experience with this.

Step 1 Remover the head from the block
Step 2 Take the head to a engineering or engine rebuilding shop to be tested (If in CHCH I suggest Cylinder Head Specialists 03-366 1729 44 Coleridge St Sydenham Christchurch they were pretty well organised and did good work last time I was there)
Step 3 Hold breath and pray for good news
Step 4 Get the Radiator flushed and cleaned
Step 5 replace the head or refit depending on 3 and a new head gaset bolt everything back together and you are back and away.

Most likley you have cracked the head (it is common in Higher km engines and ones that tow a reasonable amount).

You can install a larger radiator or flush and refill the radiator and antifreeze more often to try keep the cooling as efficient as possible.

As # 4 above, but get them to remove the tanks and do an inside clean job.
When my KZJ71 head cracked, the head shop used a special setup that circulated hot water at engine temp, thru the head, only when the head got to its 82 degrees the crack started to open up in the inlet ports.

I know bugger all about your engine (lucky by the sounds of it) and I'd certainly be putting money on the other guys being right but, depending on all the details of how much water's getting blown out etc., it could be worth trying a new radiator cap, and make sure it's the right pressure. I've found this to be the problem in a number of cases over the years and it's easy to miss -- and might be a cheap answer. Good luck dude.

OK so you are running a 1kz with a unfixed radiator and overheating issue  , if you keep that up and it was (rare but possible) only the head gasket by the time you pull it down it most likley will have heat cracked the head. :(

Yes the daily driver but knowing the cost of the head I would pull it have a look, if is cracked you know, if you cant see anything you can get it tested, if only small cracks and the gasket looks bad swap the gasket and run the risk then. It could be a rare gasket failure but the longer you run it the less likley you may be lucky.

You are pressurising the cooling system with air, this can cause the water system to stall in a local area and excessive heat to build up. 1KZ head was about $1800 to $2000 including gaskets and getting it cryo treated to strengthen it

Give Andrew (Farmer) a call on 027 444 6803, he can come to you and is cheap, get him to help you diagnose what is causing it. Its worth a second pair of eyes looking at it.

If you need help fixing it then he can help as well, otherwise you could ask Turoa?.
