I Have just brought new dunlop grandtrek a/t 80/20,s and i don't have tow hooks on but i will get around to doing it

no tow hooks, no go, that's the rules. get yourself a 10 metre tow rope while your at it. Then be there on the day.

hey surf lover you do have tow hooks front and rear and toyota certed these hooks for towing didnt they :?:

the rear hook youle just need a d shackle

the front hook is fine

surflover i use the fact tow hooks on my surf

ive pulled/snatched wagons as heavy as v8 cruisers from the rear hook :twisted:

and ive been winched from the front hook many times

and my local 4wd club has never said anything to me about having the wrong hooks on

why throw money away when youre truck will do the business the way it is

You tell us, in your expert opinion, what is the rating on these hooks, cause I haven't seen a Toyota factory one with A CERT RATING stamped on,and he would be more than better off with a hook with a tow rating stamped on it, cause at least then I'll winch him:!:

Must be a Kikiwa thing, as the clubs that i'm aware of state the hook must have cert rating stamped on :!:

Hell why winge about spending 20-30 bucks :!:

, if you can't afford to get some proper hooks, you certainly wouldn't be welcome in most clubs down south, safety doesn't come at the price of a hook :shock:

Ok well don't worry i have ordered a 6.5 ton bow shackle and a 3.5 ton hook, now since i don't have a tow bar i have got a loop on the rear drivers side is it alright to mount the bow shackle there ?

Not if its one of those bolt-on steel rod loops - they are for light towing duty on-road only - you'd be taking your (well, more likely someone elses) life into your hands recovering using that.

Bring the hook down to the shed and make a decent mount off the chassis rail sometime before the trip if you want.

Sorry i miss informed you, it is a solid metal thing with a 80mm aprox whole in it welded to the chassis, here is a link for the forums it look exactly like that

i see surflover is saying 3.5 ton hook, it should be 10000lbs with rated bolts safety dose not cost a lot

supercheap has got rated 10,000ils / 4.5 ton for 25 bucks. comes in either black or chrome with bolts.

Technically, provided the rope is rated less than the hook, you will be ok.

The Bush Ranger ones from Repco are all you need, they are $25 each, or get the ones from the site that mike sells.
