Ok Steve, here ya go
chopsawed the ends off my brand new shocks  Then made up a collet to hold the chrome shaft so I dont damage it in the lathe chuck , then threaded the end and turned a little shoulder for the mount to screw up against.

Image

Then chucked the billet of ally in the lathe and turned up the bottom spring mounts, they still have to get milled yet and a spherical bearing fitted

More on Monday night

Hi, I like the look of the start of your coillovers.
Just a question on your front arm arrangement, are you going ot run a panard, or are you relying on the angled top arms to hold the front axle in the transverse position.
Thanks Tim

Front and rear are triangulated - running a panhard rod with this setup would just cause it to bind and make for less travel and more stress on the links and chassis...

This truck should just about be able to get 90* between axles at full flex - once its finished it should get the best RTI score of the year for 2014 of any truck I've seen in NZ.. :) (I should really lay off the slow-build jokes - I'm not a speedy builder myself :P)

Thats why I asked the question Steve, problem I see with triangulated is that with a std steering box and drag link and a lot of travel, will get bump steer, so was just wondering.

The bump-steer should be as minimal as it can be with this setup due to the really long links... so road-going bump-steer should be fairly minimal... unless they are really big bumps :) However I don't think bump-steer is a major design consideration in this truck... its all about stupid-crazy-huge flex and showing off all his cool workshop toys :P

Yes it will bump steer, but I'll get over that when I get it mobile. You've been reading on Pirate to much Suzolla

Bottom mounts milled up, spherical bearing installed

Been busy as fawk wit work over the last couple of weeks, but I managed to get my coilovers done 8) cant wait to try these bastards out

Heres the slider bit that goes between the coils, slides up an down the shock body, made of UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethelene 8) ) in other words "tuff plastic"

Image

This one shows the various bits, the threaded sleeve is pressed onto the shock body, took 10 tons to get it on, so I don't think it'll move. thought I was gonna fawk the shock when the pressure was going up

Image

One more of the bits

Image

The finished article

Image

930mm extended, with 400mm of travel (bout 15 inches)

Yer, I was worried  the shock body itself was miles out of round (nearly .5mm) which wasnt helping, it was tryin to "form" the shock body as well as press it on, worked out ok in the end tho. :D

Looks good apart from the shocks on the back what other suspension work is there? Or are you ready to start the drive line (PTO etc) and wireing the link or Lexus comp.

What computer do you plan on running? Are you going to make your own strengthened driveshafts? What Joints are you thinking of using having rotated the diffs?

Or like Steves thread keep watching, and go out into the Garage and do something yourself

Oh for the pirate you could have flexed the back in the opposite direction ;) Next time maybe.

Holy Shit Steve
Wots wrong with the shocks at the back? Is it the fact theres only one?
Next is driveline, pto etc, still saving for the $1100 bux worth of alloy plate

Standard lexus comp
New d-shafts, using clearanced Carden joints

Thats what was missing at the back! Something didn't look right was all and I thought if the back was flexed out I would be able to pick it :) I want to see what the driveshafts look like with the PTO bolted up it will be quite a long gearbox assy.

I think I better hide out in my garage for a bit  Maybe that way I could get something happening on it, still need some spending money to get your Hysteer, once i get the budget sorted.

Cant help with more hours in a day for you tho.

Easy Tiger!!  Basically I'm trying to source a block of alloy for the TF case/PTO case thingy from China for a third of the price of getting it locally. I have a man in China sorting it, but with Chinese new yaer and the language problems, its not easy
I've been fawking around with my Zook after squashing it as well, thats sucked hilux time too. I at the stage where I need to get the adapter done to get the driveline in, then it goes like this
1- adapter and driveline in
2- Cab on
3- sort headers and exhaust, fuel cell, get it running
4- make new trans tunnel
5- hotrod winch and attach it to chassis
6- Finish cage, and make deck, exo, and front bumper
7- sort out rear mounted alt,pwr steer pump and OBA
8- front d-shaft, and assemble front axle
9- rear axle
10-fit out cab
11-paint....finished......

awesome. So it should be done when i have my new place built
That has taken 4 years through planning, redesign, council etc

Is it not worth casting a new block of alloy and machining from there Jafa?
