Mike will do some initial talks/demo's that everyone can be involved in, ie:
* vehicle setup and limitations
* tow points, fitting of rated tow points
* identification of suspension types and how they work
* snorkel setups and limitations when not fitted with one
* recovery equipment and attachment to vehicles

And then when the NZQA 'students' need to do their assessments we'll take the other group off to do some practical driving through marked out obstacles (I won't call them hazards, even though everything is a hazard these days). We will be able to talk and walk people through anything that they are unsure of.

So this is for everyone... not just those interested in doing the NZQA unit standards.

We are getting close now. Don't forget, this isn't just a NZQA training event... it's also a general training day for ORE 4x4 Association members and guests. So come along on Sunday and you may pick up some useful information. If you know someone with a 4WD that could benefit from an introduction to the important techniques of driving it offroad bring them along.

There will be a small $5 visitor fee for non-association members. This fee will be put towards a few sausages, patties, buns, etc on the day for lunch. I'll bring the BBQ along. I will be looking for people to assist with food preparation on the day, so please just jump in and give me a hand where possible.

I'm picking it will probably be a 10am start on Sunday because of the rugby that morning at 1am.

Sort of threadjack, I think rugby kicks off 8am Sunday morning, finish at 9.30, hopefully only 30 minutes travelling time for those watching.

Sat:
Projector is sorted....will see if I can use this for the Rugby on Sun Morning

Sunday
I'll drag the 2 burner and the tea and coffee etc, just bring a cup. I'll bring the pegs as well....I'm happy to get there early and set up some training hazards if you want me to

Weather Forecast for Sunday
Showers, 13 degrees, 32k NNE'ers (don't let this put you off as its more fun when its wet and slippery )

Henry Beer Tax???
Would be nice if everyone can chuck in a $1 per truck for beer tax for Henry (there is no land access fees there and we haven't given him beer for a whilst). Mark what do you think and do you want to arrange? He drinks Tui

More Importantly ....in terms of bribing the tutors how many marks do we get for every can of speights  Mike if you get too much beer then you will need to drink it all to get it back on the cabin baggage limit :drunken:

Is anyone bringing a Tirfor? I'll dig out my airbag jack and a couple of broken strops, anyone else got anything interesting to show and tell?

Quite right... I somehow crossed the times up... duh!

I'll have to check with Mike when he's back from his course to see if it's possible to make it 10:30am start, or whether he will run out of time then. Will keep you posted.

I might end up having to bring my little cherubs with me, but they can annoy Jerry whilst I'm busy

As for Show and tell, If everyone that has a few spare tow hooks lying around (old ones, unrated ones, broken and straighten ones etc) bring them (for Jerry)

Caravan
Has anyone got an oldish caravan or something similar that we can use for shelter to act as base and do the BBQ under? Ie, under an awning or tarp on the side of the caravan, not under the caravan itself! There is a high chance of rain and gale strength winds, so a tent is out of the equation. Failing that I'll just bring my brothers tandem flatdeck trailer and tip it on it's side with a tarp out on poles just in case it's shitty.

Rugby
Would people be interested in coming over to our place on Sunday morning to watch the rugby at 8am before making our way to Aotea Block at about 10? If so, who's got a projector that we could use? We could even fire some bacon and eggs on the BBQ for breakfast

Just an update for tomorrow and sunday.

time and place

– Whitireia Community Polytechnic, Porirua - Room A101
8.30 am – 5.00 pm - Theory for all participants.

There will be a water component at the river by rallywoods. So we will have to make our way there. Turoa has said its a 30 minute drive. Unfortunately this is a necessity for the course to drive a river component.

So see you all at 8:30am tomorrow.

Sunday due to the rugby we will start a bit later at say 10 to 10:30. As the water component is now on the saturday we have the luxury of watching the game :D So make sure you bring wet weather gear, and your muddiest boots for marks carpet.

sorry, went and checked it out this morning and its behind a big gate and lock. So unless someone rings up rallywoods and tries to get permission to use their river it looks like the river training might be out

Officially you aren't allowed in the hutt river (caused by too many idiots crossing it alone), the ranger patrols it regularly

Anyone coming down from Paraparaumu way tomorrow morning? If so, please call me on 021549540 ASAP. Otherwise I'll have to drive up there tonight and pick up a key to Rallywoods

Question: For those not doing the course do they need to do the river part or not? If not then do they just turn up on Sunday either at Mark's place or Aotea block?

No, the river crossing stuff is only a NZQA course requirement that is going to be done tomorrow. So the rest of the plebs just turn up either at my place on Sunday morning (8AM) for the rugby or at 10:30AM at Aotea Block on Sunday.

Jerry has kindly offered to provide a projector so we are all set for Sunday morning, so just bring some bacon and eggs with you for the BBQ. If you need my address just PM me or call me on (021)549540.
