Gary River - Canty

Post by fweddy »

Has any one had any experience in driving the Gary River? Are there any access issues? It may not be a common one as I'm not sure if there is any access from the main road bridge straight to the river but I do know of a back road that ends up in the river that would allow access or could come up it from the end of it.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Been up there a couple of times now with the club, no problems with access, you can go yp from the ashley river or drop down the gary from the main road.

Good trip? How far up can you get? Must get narrow/rocky up there some where?

both been good trips, we go up from rangiora bridge pass the okuku to the gary river, there is a track there that takes you up the gary to the road bridge, pretty easy run, done it last you and the track was covered by water and that made for some fun.
