Safari Diff lock solienoid wanted
The soleiniod for my rear factory locker has broke
anybody out there have one they want to sell. Any 24volt solienoid with and inlet, outlet and breather will do, we will make it fit. God, even a toymota one will do. There that's got all you toyota boys in your sheds looking, Al with toyota parts on his Nissan.

Why don't you ditch the factory solenoid in place of an aftermarket one?

Just get the 24volt version of the one detailed in the thread above. I priced one last year, was $120 or so, just never got around to getting one.

That would be great Doddzee as I have a trip into Lake Daniels (read hard core good fun) on the 27/28 Oct and will need it working by then.I

got rid of them all together. I went and bought a 3 way ball valve and ran the hoses into the cab, mounted it on the dash and it works a treat.

I bought one of these http://store.norgren.com/INT/en/cat3/sku602114428.html and got some adaptor for the vacuum hose. Vacuum from the tanks goes in through the middle and the flow determins wheather the locker is in or not.
Its a bit bigger than it looks. If you look around you could probly find something a bit smaller and neater but i needed it working so it does the trick. Its usually fairly quick to engage and disengage but occasionally it takes a little longer. I assume this is because there is still a vacuum on one side of the diaphram when you turn the valve.
Rember you can always pop the bonnet and swap the hoses on the solenoids if you are in a situation where you need it locked.
The ones in the link that Mitch posted are popular in oz, and is what I will be putting in mine shortly.
From memory Mac Valves are the distributors, and I'm pretty sure they have a retailer in Nelson, and more than likely someone in ChCh

Found a supplier in CHCH that does 24v aftermarket solenoids for general industry. A mate has used them before and they work fine.

Right, have managed to fix the solenoid and it works just sweet. Found another problem with the locker that I need some of the good old ORE problem solving on. It engages and disengages real fast now. But when I turn it turns itself off and then back on. I am sure it is in the diff itself, but what. I have noticed that the acuator on the diff is not at right angles to the diff anymore, more like 45 degress upwards. I think it took a good knock over Mt Greenland. Plan on pulling diff out on thursday and having a looksee, but all advice or ideas for what the problem may be would be of great assistance.

No you cant, the actuator is sealed and you need to remove the diff head to remove it.
I would assume you have bent the shaft from the actuator al. Same thing happended to my dads one when his cam into contact with a rock. When my one eventually packs up im thinking about fitting a small air ram in its place.

Yeah you should beable to, is the digraphram part bent too?
Check for wear on the dogteeth when it is out. If it has not been engaging propperly they may have some wear on them. If the wear is excessive they can disengage when been used under heavy load.

Doesn't look as bad as the one in the pic, the diaphragm part is still intact. I think it has been bent for a while, but the wear on the dog teeth sounds exactly the problem to me. It only disengages when I turn right. Not sure on what needs replacing until I get it out and can visualise it. Are they replacable and if so, aftermarket availability:?:
