I have just added up the figures and buying bulk you are not saving much maybe 20 bucks, If you buy with out hook there wont be much freight so it should be landed for about 160-180 nz and to me thats cheap
Any thats what I will be doing

would be way easier to handle than the 80meters of 13mm wire cable that i have on there nowwould also knock off a lot of weight from the front end

Hmmmm.....
and your winch bitch will love you for it.. Stuff me I thought pulling 50mtrs of 9mm through mud and crap was bad enough
Samson Rope make Amsteel Blue and that isn't Samson Rope's website and that price is for a 50 foot length.
Talk with the NZ distributor of Amsteel...Tony Delany at Ultra Ropes in Tauranga. 027 497 3745.
From memory, his rate for 3/8" is about $9.50/m. Thats with 10% club discount and inclusive of GST. You order it one day, it arrives by courier the next.

yes that is ft and it converts to about half the price of what its sold for here. $9.50 per meter is not something i would even consider...that would be nearly a grand to put rope on my winch

If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!

Very easy, can be done out in the field should you snap one end of your rope. There is a nice description with easy to follow photo's here:

Just did a quick comparo.....50 feet of 3/8" for US$108 works out to US$6.35/m. Current exchange rate of about 76 cents to the dollar works out at NZ$8.35/m, without the cost of freight or insurance to get it here.
Then if its more than NZ$400, you get to pay GST on it too (unless its a "gift").
Not having a go....I realise this stuff isn't cheap and we're always keen to get the best price, but sometimes its more appropriate to support the industry that supports our sport. Ultra Ropes and 4WDBits both support a couple of winch trucks and events. Have a chat with both guys, I'm sure they'll be keen to sharpen thier price.
Again, not having a dig...thats just my view on things.

Is this our next group buy???
50 feet (15.24 meters) of 3/8th (10mm) for $108.00 US (approx $142.00 NZ) plus international freight to NZ or $9.19 per meter from http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=960 about $140.00 plus domestic freight.
The choice seems simple to me, or did I miss something?

I read Grahams post as being 50m not 50 feet, though that has now been clarified

still bloody expendy for me to get 100m of the stuffwill just stick to the wire for a while untill i win lotto
Just buy 30 or 40 metres of the good stuff and use the steel cable you currently have on your winch to make an extension cable.
That way most of your winching is done with nice rope which is safe and easy to handle. Also means fewer layers on your winch drum which means more pull. Then for those odd occasions the nearest anchor is 100 metres away you can use your steel extension.
No??
Just an idea

The above way is not the strongest way to do it....
GQTROL wrote:To avoid using wire altogether, you could get 40m of Amsteel Blue and one (or two) 20m winch extension straps from ARB.
As others have suggested, 40m of rope would be all you need for most situations, but you've got the extensions on-hand when needed.
Its cheaper to get Amsteel winch extensions, I got a 20m one, half the price of a winch extension...

Jeebas how much are they these days? I saw 10,000lb 20m extensions for about AU$90 in Aussie last year.
Thats about right but my 20M extension cost me less than $30
