My new toy/project :)

Post by philux »

Well ive brought myself a 86 hilux double cab, got a few mods done already, bit of suspension work, auto locker rear, snorkle etc and a few other lil mods

My plan is to do the cross over steering (It really really needs it) wide axle conversion, disc breaks rear and just maybe coil rears, the flex in the back is pooos. Also need a bigger/better radiator to keep the donk cool and of course there will be other bits and pieces, spotlights, bar work, maybe longfield axles etc the list keeps growing, Hopefully have most of the work done before christmas as i would luv to use it over the holidays  just need to fix and sell the other truck to fund this one....

Sum pics for ya's

Nice looking truck

What is the flexible tube that you have used to hookup your snorkel.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

It was a great day that. It would have been better for Phill if he had actually made the top under his own power

You could also go for a lower thermostat will make the heater a little cooler for longer on those cold canty days.

What have you done about the tires and scrubbing? or are you waiting on the crossover before you look at that issue?

Right not much as happend over the last few weeks but things are starting to pick up now, got the old radiator out and new one ready to go in. thanks to mudslinger, got a real mint deal. just gotta try make it fit :? :?

Image Image

Wacked off the old spring hangers to make way for the new 1, also came across quite a bent shackle Image

this is its state at the mo Image Image

Also sounds like jafa's hi steer kit could be turning up on my door steep pretty soon :P :P What have other guys done when moving the front diff foward 50 odd mm did you move your shock mounts too???

Managed to take out the old steering box to make way for the ifs one, decided im gunna put the snorkle out the other side now, no more pipe running across the engine bay

The shocks are fine left alone, some have been known to make new shock hoops to allow longer shocks and more travel up and down (shock limits up movement from memory).

As the spring compresses the diff moves back a little anyway. It depends if you want to get a cert for the shock hoops

depends where ya end up bumpstopping it so ya dont crush the steering. and I would probably make new mounts and have them straight up and down, I broke eye off the bottom of my shocks cause I haven't mooved the mounts

Matt you get pretty extreme articulation out of the front of your Hilux and have a drop hanger moved forward so are you meaning cut off the top mounts making a new shock tower hoop and moving it forward or the bottom pin mount and moving it on the diff.

What type of radiator is that? (it is 4 core isn't it?)
I'm looking for a decent sized radiator for project LION HEART.

Do some new shock mounts... something like this (the mounts I made for the MU) which I thought would break within a couple of trips lasted the distance and Rik has a similar setup in his... one of the few things he hasn't broken yet :)

They were a quick-fix - took all of 2 hours from go to whoah and were just to get shocks on it so I could drive it home from the shed... but they are still there :)
