Smoky Cruiser motor 13B-T

Post by kruzin »

I have an 89 MWB Landcruiser with a 13B-t motor in it which blows a bit of white/grey smoke on cold start-ups. I have only had it a month or 2 and its been doing it since i bought it. It has had a recent engine rebuild 1000 or so kms ago, but didnt have the injectors or diesel pump done at the same time. Im just wondaring if it is a typical for the direct injected diesel motor to do that when its cold, or do i have a fuel mix problem etc..

Is it starting first time or are you priming it a bit?, my 2L-te has a bit of a puff on startup but then goes away....

I give it a pump or 2 before turning the key. Its a bigish puff as it starts up then its a small steady white puff

Not completely sure of myself here. But a diesel has injectors that are powered by a mechanical injector pump which takes power off the engine.

Therefore, pumping the throttle will only open and close the throttle body or butterfly. Don't think the diesel has a mechanical pump like a petrol has on a carbi.

Does that make sense.

My 13BT and 1HDT both make a white puff on start up and then smoke alittle after that. I'm putting it down to injectors not being A1.

Cheers

Starter motor packed up in the weekend. Replaced it and shes startn like a brand new moter now, with much less smoke! Must of been excess diesel smoke due to the delayed start.
