well thort id open a page as ive been doing a few thing lately to my truck and this seems the place to put it all.HISTORY,started off as a standard yn130 2dr surf on 235/75/15s,but came with 33/12.5/15 bgfs on another set of rims.18months ago it was handling just to much like a boat so i bit the bullet and brought a 2" Old Man Emu suspension kit and threw that in,also the weekensd before id put on the roof rack and spots which u can see in the pic

aslo had gear i the back when the second photo was taken so doesnt look that great sori

next trip away went well but a month later my auto box was rooted!!

so brought a donour and it was converted to manual,6 months later the motor blew due to old age and that was it,due to cercumstances it has sat for the last 9 months.

but now progress has started and its all due to be completed by the begining of november,

new mods include
-3.5"body lift
-30mm upper ball joint spacers
-modified steering shaft to suit
-35" bfg all terains on steel rims with with a further 1"offset giving wider stance
-rewired spots(basically do them professionaly rather than rangi style)
-sliding draws in the back
-lifted gear box with new xmember(at this stage only by 1" but i may go 2" and lift motor to level back out)
-rebuild 3y motor
-bar work front and rear including cradle for winch(but havent got this yet,just gana do it all at once tho to make it easyer)
-new side rails that come strait off chassis
-new spare wheel carrier on back with jerry can and arm for highlift jack
-and possibly a newly fabricated fuel tank which will attach to original mounts but sit 3" higher to match lift
-3"steel snorkel with pod filter and new air box

last weekend i removed all the old wiring for spots,removed the seats and front and rear bars and pulled a ball joint out of my donour truck.

so far during this last week ive produced the body lift,ball joint spacers and steering xtension

Where did you get the 30mm ball joint spacers from ?

im an engineer and made them myself,along with the body lift and steering spacer,ill also be making all the bar work and gearbox xmember aswell as eng mounting blocks if i go down that track

Hi again guys,
Progress this week, I have changed over my manual hubbs to a stronger set, but during this found that brake discs need skimming, so that is going to put me back a little. Also went to rebuild the motor and found that the pistons and rings were the wrong size, so things are on hold for another week.
As for the guys waiting for prices on balljoints and steering wheel spacers, I am still waiting to hear back from certifier, which should be this week, i will let you know.
Progress on the shoe department, big thanks to GOOSE, who dropped off my new rims at ELITE. 8" been widen to 10", back offset also moved back an inch, plus blasting and nice new black powder coating are underway and should be ready for next weekend.
Apart from that couldn't get much more done due to housework.
Will get more pics up asap.

well a litle update before i start on the truck again today,work sucks and takes up all my fun times modifying my truck so my deadline for early november is bein pushed out a bit,but got new disc and pads last wek,threw them in along with replacing the boken wheel studs so thats cleaned the front end up nicely,this week ive produced the gearbox xmember and thats fully dne and ready to go in today,tyres and rims have arrived so theyre ready to go on today,dam they look good,cheers again goose ,eng mounts are currently under way and im havn a wee bit of trouble with ma ball joint spacers,cert guy aint to happy with me bending the a arms back outa shape so far to get the back bolts in so now have made them 25mm and tryn to make him happy with that,will see what happens,as for today the big one is eng rebuild and bolt that in,well c how it goes and ill throw some more pics up tonight for all u pic whores

well just a bit of an update,engine is fully rebuilt and due to be put in tommorow night or the next,tyres are on the back end so thort id throw up this pic to let uz see how its lookin,just need to get a rear bar sorted and itll really look the part,my mates about 1.7m tall,so u can make a judgement from that



u can also get a pretty good look at the offset off the new rims,quite nice id have to say

lol cheers guys,rim specs ar roh 8",widened to 10" with the offset moved back to 3"of back space between rim edge and mounting face,tyres are 35/12.5/15 bfg all terains,all of which are brand spanking new ,as for diffs ive already got 4.88s in there from stock so cant really do much there,itll be a lil gutless but im fine with that,i use it mostly on the beach so wont affect me too much,and then in a few years ill hopefully have saved enuf to do a v8 conversion plus few other things, SAS

When i did a body lift on my LN60 I found the steering shaft was to short (like yours), turns out it was from an independent lux, found a standard length solid front one to be about 40mm longer.
Slapped it in and it fits perfect.

Might be a better bet.

well bit of an update,during this week ive finished off the gearbox xmember,heres it pa10'd



and this is what is lookes like after a further coat of black zinc



ive also got the engine mounts modified to stage 1.all ive done is machined off the mounting flat which would normally be attached to the engine block



i then made up some new mounting plates



and once ive installed the engine into the right position ill just tack them up,pull them back out,seam weld them,blast and paint them up,they end up looking something like this,and i will have achieved a 2" eng and gearbox lift



dam this is taken ages to write out,hope u pic whores are loven it tho

i also started on the side steps tonight,ill get some pics up for them tomorrow night tho,to much typing and copyn and pasten 4 1 night

also for all guys waiting for me to get back to you about parts etc,ive had a few hold ups in those areas but i aint forgot about you

looks good how are you attaching the steps. Are you welding a plate on the chassis rails and attaching? Bolting through with tubes? or makeing a U shape and bolting like Rokhound? oh and Picks are 1000 words so really long post

at this stage my plan is to weld them direct to the chasis along witha small gusset for extra strenght,not only is it a side step but also goin to be usable as a jack point for the high lift u kno,ill be using 50x50x4 box section so thatl give me heaps of strenght and decend steel to get a good weld down and cheers elev8,it is great news isnt it

You definatley want to put a plate or plates on the chassis where you weld to the chassis. The Hilux chassis can stand vertical stress as this seem's to be the way they were designed but they bend and flex.

An example is the power steering box in a standard hilux is top mounted and doesn't give much trouble, Convert to crossover which is side mounted and you need to plate the chassis as the flex and movement can crack the frame.

you will still need gussets but I would weld some plate to the chassis.

You couls also fold a piece of plate (or get some angle) under the tube and across the top and weld the braces. The frame is not the strongest verticaly and spreading the weight a little more is good.

It is a bit of a pain with the different length leg's too. Also are you going to have them mounted flat to the body or slightly up (botton of the frame out and up to bottom of sill) to allow it to slide (poor man's boatsides)

Oh and are you making your sliders from box or tube? Box is more utilitarian

It is a left hand the up bar at the back is designed to connect to a flat tray.

WJW has the angle I was talking about. Oh and the pic is not of a bar I made I wish I could weld that well! It was just to show the mounting plate at the end of the tube.

I'll probably run out before I get to finish them, but plan is to use the 2" 3mm stuff. they get some plate to put on top for walking on. Just need to get a new 2" holesaw...

mhm i see,mine are out of box section,and theyll be coming strait out off chasis and sit bout 20mm under sill plus go out far enuf to get a foot on to help get in,so yeh,if i land on them then yes i hope to slide or atleast sit without damagin sill/body,um,yeh i was thinkin of maybe putin a plate in were urz is ae,just means findin more steel platin,wjw were u planin on weldin plates onto the end of ur tubbing or were u just gona weld them on as per ur pic?
