well after seling the cruiser i was looking for a new toy looked at a mu looked at a daihatsu looked at a toyota but brought a escudo was cheep as made some 40mill spring spacers got some 31inch simex tyres today so will be working on da beast saturday glade to now be a suzuki boy

Is it gonna be road legal?
Are the spring spacers the only way your gonna lift it? do you know about cos of the angle of the front A arms when you put 40 mm spacers in you actually get about 60mm+ lift in the front (about a 1:1.5 ratio) but the rear is just 1:1... but much higher than sorta 70mm (depending on how you drive) you really start going through the cv's...
Personally I would try and get hold of some springs especially for the rear cos then it will help with flex and not just simply lift...
I've got 31inch Pirelle Scorpions under mine and (which only measure 30.5) and i've got probably about a 75mm lift in rear and 65mm in front at a guess... also got a virtual lift (prob about an inch) and have pushed the firewall back a good inch too... (
Would definately recommend locking the rear diff though... lockrite is only about $350NZ or MIG is cheaper again
but makes a HUGE difference...

cool thanks for that my front has about 20 mill sag now so was going to do that to even it up but yra the spacers are only a cheep way to get me high enough to go out this weekend how did u mod the firewall ? with a BFH "(big ####### hammer) lol
well actually i went the hard way cos i wanted it to look stock(ish) and actually cut a slit down the seam in the firewall, then pushes it back with the BFH and re welded it back together , and the edges i had cut slotted back into one another and gave a clean finish.. but i don't know if it was worth the effort haha.... you are sorta limited by the accelator pedal on the drivers side also....
Will the firewall with the tyres/wheels i had they rubbed badly but could have been related to their offset... they are 15x7or8" and dont know the offset... but they are only just clear the chassis on full lock etc etc... stock rims may be better or worse don't know

(or middle of hub to top of wheelarch wont change with tyre size) as currently don't really know how much lift i've got really.... if you wanna check your current sag go down to the local supermarket and meaure one down there haha...

Other thing i did at the same time was re-constructed my sills so gained a fair bit of clearance there... from memory i took it back to the solid verticle box type bit or something in front of the door frame... will get a photo next time its clean

Cut off the old stuff and welded in 50x100x3mm thick box section
Capped the ends, and painted it with hammerrite (gives it two tone look)
You can see its well above the chassis rails now...
Oh and with trimming the wheel arches added some flares to it
and had a play with the side bar welded straight to the sill and have highlifted off it a few times, and works well..

well got it all done today to make it sit even i put 40 mm spacers in the front and 20 in the back took to the front guards with a angle grinder lol and a club hammer to the firewall lol sits a lot higher but going down to the river 2morow with badnews so will take some pics and i found out that toyota highace van back shocks fit in mint in the back and give u a lot moor movement did a strut top flip in the front to give moor travel

Hey Icekayak, do you have phots of exactly what you cut away? Both our scuds are getting absolutely hammered under the sills, and I really like the finished job you've got there.
I couldn't afford new springs at the time I lifted it, so I used spacers too. 29mm front and 50mm rear gave a nice even 2inch lift. Flipped the front hats, but made a BIG mistake in putting in extra length H/duty shocks at the rear. I might as well be riding on railway irons!!! I highly recommend normal duty shocks only, you can still get the extended length.

'89 3-Dr scud. 2" body lift, 2" suspension, Snorkel, 31x10.5's, Evil-daughter chose the paint-job.
umm not really there was a writeup on one of the big overseas suzuki forums but can't find it now.. but found a couple of photos of it on a image hosting place... he used 2 bits of 50x50 welded together cos that's what he had lying around...

Cos the sills are part of the body structure and the frontal and side impact etc etc. It appears there are not different criteria between vehicles with a chassis and without.
It is a fair bit of work to do, and is a pain welding thin sheet metal to thick RHS. For a road legal vehicle I would probably recommend if your sills are still decent go with some sorta rock sliders or even some 4mm thick angle bolted/welded onto the seems... But if your sills are stuffed (mine were probably worse than that 1st photo)... then i felt it was a good fix for it under my circumstances...

wellhave taken the escudo out for a run in the mud on sunday went out with badnuz and another mate in his zuke went real good the 31s rubed like a bitch lol got a bit moor mods to do with the BFH lol and got boged in a big ass mud hole the mud and water was over my drivers seat inside lol and that did my clutch so now got to do a new clutch apart from that went mint like it a shitload moor tham my cruiser
