Reconnecting chewed hoses in a cruiser

Post by fweddy »

Blame the starlings!

Long story.

Parked the cruiser up to do the diffs about a week or so ago. Starlings decided on a nice place to make a nest. Why in my cruiser when I have classic cars that have been sitting round for years I have no idea!?

Then as I've been working on it the last couple days the dog has been 'helping'. She's been barking at a nest in the wood pile then discovered the cruiser one, she has climbed up into the engine bay from underneath and got up the top corner where the smell was strongest and started rummaging. She bit and pulled stuff out of her way and unfortunately that included hoses and wires :)

here she is emerging from the scene of the crime after her 'cover' was lifted. She's as dirty as a dipstick now.

I've rewired the wires but need some one with a 70 series to give me some pointers on reconnecting the hoses if possible.

I've coloured the ends in this photo. If you can do some colour matching I'd really appreciate it. Also have to source some more hose. The dog can pay for that - she's due to drop pups in three weeks - even though she's not acting like it

Regardless I've made good progress on the diffs and am doing maintenance on the rest of the front end too.

as your other post said...you were looking for some preventative measures!!!!:)

That dog...I suggest some metal wiring so that she will not do any more damage!!! And a good bath too.

anyways, glad you'll be up and moving again sometime.

Yes good thinking. One preventative measure I have taken is to remove the bird nest. Within a few days she should have forgotten about it and all will be ok, but then the blessed starlings are such determined things that they will most likely be back. Sooner I get the truck mobile again the better. Will take the diffs into Rik today.

Still keen on some colour matching or at least a photo of that area of the engine bay... Must go buy some hose today, but if I know what goes where I'll know how much to buy.

Fweddy I dont have one otherwise I would help you but what you could do is call in at the car dealer and grab one for a test drive get them side by side and all done. Return it and say thanks but it is not for me.

Or grab your camera and go down snap a few shots and all good also ;)

 Now who was the dodgy guy that suggested something like that

P.S. It can be a really cheap rental car option too when in Australia, you just have to return it the next morning and go to another yard.

Not that I know of anyone who would do something like that. It was the last two days and I was in Brisbane

Thanks

I was actually thinking of dropping into Lineside or even just talking to some one who owns one on the street. One photo should be enough to help out. I might even find an under bonnet shot online I guess, but it might not show enough detail.

I looked at Trademe and online the issue is they are pretty square on the nose you only need the LHS brake booster area. I think calling into Lineside or a car yard and explaining or just pop the bonnet take the Picks and put it down again.

As for the dog not sure how to get her clean again, maybe like a guy I know he got a black dog.

A bit of info for you fweddy but not quite the complete picture for you.

mines a petrol cruiser so the plumbing wont look anything like yours and its got a chev in it which makes it even different again. I'm sure you'll sort it

Hey Thanks - its a step in the right direction tho. I notice your doofers on the firewall are the opposite way around to mine.

Thanks for the Prado offer Jerry, reminded me to check mine! (Its similar but a few differences) I think between Sadam and the Prado I have here I should be able to figure it...
