Toyota 1UZFE V8 into Surf 3VZE V6 Questions HELP!!

Post by mudrat »

Hi All,

I have been told by one source that the Toyota 1UZFE quad cam 4Ltr V8 Bellhousing will bolt onto the 3VZE V6 Automatic gearbox.

Can anyone confirm this?

Which torque converter would I use?

What else needs to be done between the V8 motor and the V6 auto?

Does the V8 fit into the '91 Surf engine bay without issues?

What sump position do I need on the V8, front, middle or rear?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Hi cromcruiser

Yeah, my auto is an A343H

Does the sump have to be handmade, or just modified?

With the Commy V6 into the Sunbird (not finished yet much to the missus dismay) the Commy sump has just been modified.

Do you know of anyone thats done this conversion?

From memory (was one of the options I looked at for my lux)
Any A340 trans will fit with the standard torgue converter, you will have to replace the computer tho as the standard one manages the original auto as well and without these imputs the best you can do is get it to run in "limp mode" (de-tuned) cough the coin for a link or build a megasquirt
As for size, you might need a shoe horn but it will fit  The sump is something that wasn't an issue for me as I'm solid axle but looking at the room I"d say you should be able to modify a rear to fit and well your modifying it increase it they are tiny!
In my case even thoe I have a 1UZ sitting here I made the call to go supra 5M a hell of a LOT cheaper and more room to play with!
If your after more info talk to "DJ" or "Suprasurf" both have done or helped out with this conversion

Hi madrat the sump is just modified i run 33/12.5/15 inch mongrel tyres
detroit e-z locker
50mm body lift and 50mm spring lift
what is your fuel usage like , i think a v8 would be just as good

Thanks,

Depending on the damage to the heads, the v8 is looking like a viable option.

Before going ahead with this conversion make sure you have plenty of $$$$ I have done 4 conv and they all cost, big time.

Are you sure this is the way to go as 5m swap is cheaper and can out preform a v8 surf easily and is more reliable. I have driven chevy v8 , v6 and holden v6 surfs and my own 5m Surf gets the job done better, ask DieselBoy, Wopass, Chops, Scott, Klompy and many others, admittily the motor has been modified. Get a very good supply of front diffs as a v8 WILL eat as many as you can feed it.But if you go ahead I can help with any questions you may have
First is your surf a diesel? ( makes a difference to the fitting of engine mounts.
Do you know a very good auto electrican
When you purchase a motor get a Toyota Soara rear (Sort Of) sump shorter water pump the best exhast manifolds and get one with at least a metre of wiring from the motor.
Hunt down a Boush external fuel pump
that will keep u busy for a while
cheers DJ
