Hi all, real keen/serious on doing and exo on my rig, been surfin sites and have a few ideas in mind, this one is close but not eaxactly the same as I have in mind
What I want to know is has anyone on here got exo expeience...I've heard they can whistle like shit at 100kph, I still do some long(8hrs+) on road/family trips, wanna do the exo, but wanna remain happily married to a wife who enjoys 4wheelin with me how say you
I know that 'fuel economy' is a relative term with a supra motor and big donuts to turn... but it will really go to shit with the exo on... that and the whistling / humming are the two main reasons I've put off bending up some outside tube for mine... (that and it has no motor or box or axles or tyres or fueltank at the moment
Im picking by sites you mean Pirate?
Ive been looking too.
I see a few bits id change, like top of the door that needs a vertical joiner and hoops over the rear arches to round the base at the back.
If you didn't want to go longer in the back, you could turn the rear seats around hard up behind the fronts.
Go for a more slanted back with a canvas cover.
Bobtail of sorts.
Ive always liked the idea, its on my list after learning to weld, buying a welder, buying tubing, buying a cutter(s)......

i say remove doris from the equation.. see? sweet!
If you have a woman who likes 4wding with you, (although don't ever recall having seen her out with you Tim ), Then I am quite sure that you will not be getting into situations that will require an exo .
But if the actual reason you want to do this is for asthetics and hardcore look, then carry on .
But remember, we will require you to actually do something that will require the cages use
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
I had a look on pirate and most say there is not much more noise. Some even say if there is more noise they can't hear it over the engine in the car but people outside can hear it.
Only one said there was a lot of noise but he also used box section to build the exo and it was so ugly he made a tube one, the box made noise the tube only slightly.
Most of the guy's have their own tube bender and bend the stuff themselves you may want to see if you can hire something.
What size tube do you plan on running?
Legal disclaimer: Any information I may have provided is worth exactly what you paid me for it.

You never see her cause you hardly ever go out She comes on nearly all the "easier family trips" that we enjoy in our road legal wossie trucks It ain't for looks its so I can have my fun safely and keep my vehicle relatively straight, and more importantly road legal, its hard to get a warrant with a bent A pillar, and what a curse having to tow a vehicle from here to the coast, and most of the places we go have a different exit point than entry But I guess each to thier own
Talk to supralux about the tube through his account. I believe that 40mm 3.2mm wall tube was around $48 per length. Think from memory that tube length is 6.1m.
How are you going to mount to the chasiss? As you better check that welding something like that on chasiss rails is certifiable first, not to mention the protruding bar work. If you can prove it is a commercial racking system of some sort, I think you can get away with it.
Just do the homework first

A certifier came to our club night last week. As he sees it if the exo is bolt on there is nothing in the rules to say that it needs to be certified. But when you start welding it to the chassis you need to. Exos are able to be certified as long as they do not have any sharp edges etc.
I intened to weld it to the existing rear bar work, front bar work, and rock sliders, all of which are bolted to the chassis, I have also been told as long as it's not more than 100mm off the body there is no need for cert hink I will go and have a chat to Wayne

Wow that is Harsh I hope she doesn't read that.
I found on one thread it is the horizontal tubes that make the most noise like the one in front of the window they have found if it is not straight (slight kink or curve) then the noise goes.
the other area that can make noise is where everything joins.
Anyway when you build it post up your results and photo's and possibly a before and after weight?

Looking good to go ahead and do....
wating to find out if I can get access to an exhaust shop to use their electric/hydraulic bender, and if it will do 40mmx3.2mm pipe, the chap helping me used to build race cars and he's got some excellent ideas, will do a photo shoot of progress It's gonna add less than 120kgs to the truck Keep yo informed, starting as soon as we have approval for the good pipe bender......doing it by hand will suck
Sweet. I have thought about one to. Not because i have a super hard out truck just because Im always scared of rolling it. With an exo I could pobably push it abit further and improve my driving. Do you have a rough costing in mind? When you say bolt on do you mean removeable bolt on or bolted on the the chassis but welded in a way that you would have to chop it up to take it off?

bring on the pics! Cheers Pete
cost 3-4 lengths of pipe and some spirits for my right hand man Poss cost for me between $200-$300 cheap insurance Yes it will be a chop job to get it off but that will give it strength
Exo will happen, and as for the Mrs, she loves to come out playin and driving my truck...been happily married now for a decade and have 3 gorgeous kids...here's for you knockers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krVACUbciJE
