So its not the flashest bar in the world, but for my first attempt at not paying someone exorbitant amounts of moolah, im fairly happy with it. Cost $30.00, and that was for the paint......

Looks good, particularly for first effort. Just a couple of design improvements for version 2, bottom loop looks too low and might dig into things; you could make the edges extending from where frame ends bend and run closer and back towards the fender. This will give you better approach angle.

Well, the bottom hoop was meant to be the top one, but i cocked it up, so just flipped it over. Originally the bottom one was meant to be shallower in height and run longer to cover the steering box, hence the extra tube triangulating up the the bar as it is now. Not too worried about catching things with the bottom hoop, its approach angle is still superior to the stock. RE: bending back in toward the fender, im still toying with cutting 150mm of either side yet..... looked at and drew options of tucking it back into the fender, but didnt like the look. also looked at angling a big hoop back hugging the top of the grill line (and then over the guards onto the still to come rock sliders, but that looked ugly..... so went with this, simple and does the main job, which was to cover and protect the winch and fairlead.

Has the 97 Wrangler got a Safety Air Bag fitted and if so how is your compatibility affected.

Yes it has and wouldnt have a clue. Its bolted to the exact same place as the stock one.....
truckloads of bars are dead flat across the front, or slope back AFTER protruding foreward.... i guess my WOF guy will tell me if theres an issue. From my understanding there can be no foreward protusions that can pinch/puncture a pedestrian ie; towing eyes (that are often seen on the US custom bars) Hence the rationale for making it as it is as so as to render the protruding fairlead innocuous..... Then again, my understanding may be, and often is, flawed....

erm...... ya probably dont wanna know. Lets just say thats is rated to take 3300kg load when vertical.
In relation to the legality of "protusion" if required (after reading the ltsa "VIRM Vehicle Exterior 2-1 External Projections... cont" i'll argue that because my roller fairlead does protrude forward of the bumper, that i have installed a "pedestrian friendly shroud to prevent trapping" as per the requirement under "auxillary winches".
we will see, if its not a go, then it'll give me an excuse to design and biuld another one

TJs have air bag sensor in the transmission tunnel, so the frontal impact is not changed by the bar directly. Also, the frame crumple zone is behind the bar towards where the front of the body mount is (three little holes in the frame right next to each other). Since he is using the factory mounting points for the bumper (which are front of the crumple zone), that is not impacted as well. That is my understanding, so don't see any problems.
