Hi everyone.Great site. I am currently fitting a VH41 into Safari Hi-top LWB. Has anyone else done the same?Motor all mounted.Drivshafts done.Exhaust nearly complete. Still got a way to go but enjoying this transplant. Any comments or questions welcome.
was buying one in nelson 4 years ago, motor was a very tight fit and it wasnt very good on the gas infact it was quite bad, ( all that safari weight) all the exhausts etc.. had to be hand made, things like the radiator required alot more work than first thought, things like that, made a good noise though, good luck
Hi Darin Neeley,up in Whangarei has done it to his winch truck,Saw it in action last weekend, seems to go alright, its a turbo one reputed to be making 400hp plus, his contact is darin.neeley@roostmortgages.co.nz
Quite a few of the VH conversions have been done now.
Darin Neeley is running a turboed VH45 and dynoed at 280kw at the rear wheels.
Grant Guy built the VH41 powered white SWB GQ for Taupo 1000. TeLexus and the rest of those crazy buggers in Taupo built one with a VH45 (I think) for Raana Horan, also for Taupo 1000.
Gary Batchelor in Christchurch did one of the earlier ones (VH45) about 4 years ago.
Madaz' old man is doing VH45 into a SWB at the moment.
VH41 develops more torque from memory.

I've just completed a VH45 turbo into an 89 GQ. My email is above so contact direct or ask away as there's quite abit to it and I'm happy to share my experience.
It cost me $2k for the motor but all up it is way, way the wrong side of $10k and I did most of it myself!!!!!!!!!!
In theory it is easy but don't be fooled there's a lot to it.
But the plus side, the power, oh the power...... If only I knew how to drive!!!!!!!!!!!! 280rwkw ( with 33's not my Simex) is something to behold and it appears a Safari drive train is more than adequate.
I now have to change all the suspension as it is so much lighter nothing is working properly. Change one thing and everything else needs changing.
