terrano oils

hi everyone hey just looking for some advice with regard to oil/fluids to use.
This is for a 1992 5door td2.7 5spd manual terrano.
1:Gearbox
2:Transfer
3.Front diff
4.Rear diff (not a lsd)

I am looking to find out what sort I need ie gl4 or gl5 to use in each also the rating ie 75/90 etc
And if possible the amounts I need to use in each.
On a budget thats why I am doing it myself so top of the range products may be out of my range.

2:Transfer 80w 90 approx 1.5L
3.Front diff 80W 90 Approx 2.5L
4.Rear diff (not a lsd - are you sure??)80W 90 approx 3.5 L

Oil is oil. Buy the cheapest you can get. Add Moreys Heavy Duty oil staibiliser to gear box. Thats the weakest link on a Terrano. A bit in the diffs wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks for the prompt reply ...I got a little lost with the gear box gl4/gl5 stuff, reading around it was sounding like gl4 was the way to go for this model.
I better put some time aside if this involves removing the gear stick to fill it up with 5lt, I assume thats 5lt total including the Moreys. Thanks for that bit of knowledge I will add some.
As for the lsd I had a look for a yellow sticker didn't find one then I jacked up the rear and spun one of the wheels the other side didn't spin so I was left with the conclusion it wasn't a lsd. This model has the electronic front suspension switch,factory running boards,skid plates,sunroof etc. I thought it would of had a lsd seems its got extra options from factory. Will it matter tho? or will the 80W 90 still be fine.

I've just filled my gearbox up took 7 litres and there is a big bung near top of gear box, i used manual pump to fill as is very tight the easy way is to remove gear shift and pour in top.

Any gear box oil works well if yours is starting to make noise put some promar additive in it works wonders on prolonging gear box life.

Is there any instructions that people are aware of, of how to access etc the correct bungs to change the oils in these areas.

Great advice there guys, esp as my 95' TD2.7 auto Terrano is comming out of its warrante soon and I will also be doing my own oil changes etc.

One thing I have learnt from talking to others, is when changing the oil filter, remember to have a couple of supermarket bags handy to drop the filter into, as it is best to lay it horizontal and remove it via the inner wheel arch.
Prevents the continuous old oil trickle after the filter has been changed.
I only wish the garages and service places would also take the time to do this, as I hate oil drips on my drive.

Sounds like we need to compile a new list of Terrano hints n tips here, freom dodgy aircon functions to oil filler bungs.

I recently changed the engine, diffs & transfer boxes. When i drained the transfer box the oil looked like ATF and didn't smell like gearbox oil. I rang around a few gearbox places and they said stick with ATF. Mines a 93 & the north american manual I downloaded for a 94 on said to use ATF, & I rang my favorite (4wd upgrades, brougham st chch) and the bloke there searched his books and found that the correct nissan recommended lubricant fro the transfer box was indeed ATF. So I put ATF in.

Transfer box uses ATF ie dextron 111 and not the usal type of oil.
If you want a workshop manual on disc send a a pm with your addy etc n ill get it off to you.

I remember reading somewhere that GL5 oil has an additive that isnt good for some metals (bearings in old boxes) and if in doubt use GL4. Any truth to that rumour?

Im unsure of other models but the Dextron 111 oil is used in both the auto and manuel transfer box's of the Terrano
