Hi Bill,
the detroit EZ locker is essentially the same as a lockrite, or Lokka :!:
It's what I have fitted to both ends of mine.
Cheap as chips, relatively easy to fit, and lock your diffs :!: Everyone has opinions on whats best blah, blah, blah..................but they are value for money
Mike @ http://www.4wd.net.nz does a good deal on EZ lockers for your Toyota

Just a guess, but Rik- did you mean JT Outfitters?

http://jtoutfitters.com/category/traction.lockers

Maybe we should look at a group buy to cut down freight costs... I'd probably get one... They are cheaper than I can import Lokkas from OZ at dealer prices (and probably more reliable to get the order out of too...)

ok guys sorry for the late reply ive been waiting for them to get back to me to confirm the shipping as it sounded to good to be true what they came back with is its approx $10 us per lb for shipping i was ordering 2 ez lockers and 2 5:29 ring and pinion gears which works out at approx $1550 nz which is still cheap the approx weight is 39 lbs so not as cheap as first thought but apparently they dont use the cheap mail as you cant track parcels im gonna email them and see if they can do any better on a bigger order so we all get a good deal

dont forget a bigger order will get stung for gst as cutoms a smaller order mostlikely will not. A better Idea is to ask if we order x # can we get a discount on the item price and still ship them all seperatly so we can avoid having to pay GST. Also rember GST is calculated on the price of shipping as well

actually you will prob get stung any way if order is over $400 NZ including shipping you will need to pay gst.

Calculation of Customs Charges

Where applicable, Customs duty is levied on the transaction value of the goods (the price actually paid for them). Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 12.5 percent is then calculated on the duty-inclusive value plus international freight and/or insurance charges. If there is no transaction (such as the goods being supplied free of charge, or a relationship between the supplier and importer which affects the transaction price), an alternative form of valuation may be used.

No revenue collection will be made if the total amount owing on the goods imported is less than $50. The revenue waiver does not apply to tobacco products.

For further information about valuation of goods or calculation of charges, please contact any Customs office.

Only thing I would be nervious of is getting the right one for the Diff. I have a 3.0L 96 surf with IFS but the info available is confusing 7.5 vs 8inch diffs etc. I know it has a LSD in the rear but as to size in front and rear god only knows. Any help/comment appreciated on what they are or how to tell

Hey im pretty sure you will find the front diff is 7.5inch and the rear is 8inch. On the vin plate under the hood there is a series of numbers - one for the type of transmission and another to tell you the type of diff etc. this one will have a code for the gear ratio and LSD in it aswell. Sorry cant explain it more clearly but one of the guys on here had a link to a web page that explains how to this - it is really quite idiot proof - i managhed to work it out ok

Hey Riki, Hope you realise (and haven't ordered your 5.29 gears yet) that they won't fit in your third member housings :!:
be careful, check out all th info  BEFORE you purchase, could be costly otherwise :!:
5.29 gears will only fit in a 5.29 housing, which are getting harder to find, P.M me if you need some advise but don't purchase the ring and pinion till we chat next, or 0272260165

superbogga, you almost certainly have a 7.5" 2-pinion front diff, and an 8" 4-pinion diff in the rear. Check the trans-axle code on the firewall then use the quick link on the offroadexpress homepage to the toyota diff info page to check the details.

regards

Steve

Yeah, I was talking about the other guys truck... Riks is a beam axle... more likely 4.5 diffs tho... 4.3s were almost only found in 2.4TD surfs and 3.0TD Prados

I'm doing everything I can to have the MU running for that weekend out btw... as long as I can get the front driveshaft machined up in time I should be right...

Tim 5.29's will fit any housing.
You just need to order the correct ones. In the US they are called 4 cylinder and V6.

Our 5.29's are really old and won't fit into a standard hilux housing but the US versions are sweet.

If you are not sure then get some 4 cylinder ones and use an old hilux or hiace 4.3 housing and carrier. You'll need to check your housing because alot of the 90's surfs had the larger pinion and side bearings which are the V6 type.

The front is no problem as the IFS 7.5's are all the same.
