Red Rocks / South Coast CMS

Post by Jerry »

FYI theres a CMS review (or something like that) coming up for Red Rocks, Everyone on here in Wellington should make a personal submission to protect our access to this area...others outside the area are welcome to as well. WCC are pushing to make a reserve to enable them to protect some area's, 4wd access may not be affected as I understand it but we need to be included to make sure we aren't "forgotten"

I am getting more info and will post it up in the next day or so with more background info and some suggested submissions and how to make a submission.

Just recieved the info, right get submitting, please use these as as a guideline, if you have any questions let me know and I will find out, these suggestions were prepared by someone experienced in land access.

PLEASE NOTE I WILL BE REMINDING PEOPLE WHO I KNOW USE THIS AREA TO PUT IN A SUBMISSION.... I may be asking people to help out on a planting / cleanup trip here in the future...land access affects us all...get involved....Out of towners are encouraged to make a submission as well....(which means you can ask us to submit on any in your area)

WHEN YOU MAKE A SUBMISSION PLEASE PUT INTO YOUR OWN WORDS SO IT APPEARS NOT TO BE COPIED AND PASTED

PLEASE CONFIRM WHEN YOU HAVE MADE A SUBMISSION SO I STOP NAGGING YOU

To get the WCC document go to http://www.wcc.govt.nz

take the link on the right "Public Input"

then the 2nd item (currently anyway) is the South Coast Land Reclassifiaction. Go there.

At that page you can
- read all about it
- download the planning document (3 links to the same doc)
- download the submission form.

The proposal does NOT adversely affect us 4wd enthusiasts. The proposed reserve land west of Owhiro Bay is on the inland side of the existing vehicle track. This is apparent in the diagrams (although not very precise) and this is what I was advised by a senior council officer.

What I recommend for submissions from the 4wd fraternity is...
- confine our comments to west of Owhiro Bay only
- support the Council in rehabilitating and protecting the coastline
- support the proposed reserve classifications
- ask that the classification specifies a few things.

We ask that the classification specifically includes:
- definition that the seaward boundary of the reserve is the vehicle access track
- taking into account that the location of the track can vary slightly over time
- access along the vehicle track will not be prevented by the classification.

...or something along those lines. We've got until 26 November to respond.

Heres a draft submission that you can copy, edit and then submit online

To get the WCC document go to http://www.wcc.govt.nz

take the link on the right "Public Input"

then the 2nd item (currently anyway) is the South Coast Land Reclassifiaction. Go there.

At that page you can
- read all about it
- download the planning document (3 links to the same doc)
- download the submission form or make a submission online

I am wishing to make a submission regarding Owhiro Bay, specifically the west of it.

I support the Council in its efforts to rehabilitate and protect the coastline;
I support the proposed reserve classifications;
I ask that the classification specifies a few things:

(1) that the seaward boundary of the reserve is the vehicle access track.
(2) That the location of the vehicle access track can vary over time and shifts due to the currents.
(3) That the existing access to the vehicle access track is not changed but included.

As a responsible recreational user of this area adjacent to the proposed reserve I feel that ....

[Suggestions - put these in your own words]

[Family stuff eg great area to take my kids]
[how you use it responisibly]
[how you would like to see the area improved to stop the idiots and hoons]
[Volunteer to help the council on working bees]

As a background I am in the [Insert Club Name], [Insert if applicable] and I am am a current member of the NZ Four Wheel Drive Association http://www.nzfwda.org.nz

Thank you for the opportunity to make this submission.
