landcruiser 13bt vacuum switching valve

Post by cornfarmer »

Can anyone tell me where the vsv is on a 13bt. My engine will only run with the vacuum pipe off at the moment and is interesting to try to shut down.

Nah I haven't yet. Hopefully It wont be too expensive. I loaded the switch full of contact cleaner, it ran sweet until I hit a few bumps then stopped again.
Is your truck still running? If not pull the vacuum pipe off the big round valve by the throttle cable on top of the intake manifold. You will have to stall the engine to stop it, but will get you running again no probs.

Yeh thats what we did to get home to Nelson. If you do not want to stall the truck you pop the bonnet and manually lift the fuel or air shut off, that the vacuum works.

Im following this topic with intererst as i also know of someone with the same problem.
He priced a Toyota one, in the $200.00+ price range.
:( Is their not one from an air shop, at a lower cost?

I'm putting my cruiser into the workshop on wednesday so I'll let you know what it costs. How many km's had your truck done when the vsv went. mine just clicked over 160,000.

Mines done 169,000 km. Kevin i have heard they are exspensive have not looked into it yet. may be cheaper to do away with it and run choke like cable and manually shut it down.

howdy y'all, priced up the vsv today $270 from toyota. i'm biting the bullet and getting it. Atleast it's cheaper than the $1500 i just spent on a gearbox , flywheel, starter motor, and clutch for the mrs piece of sh#t mitsibishi galant!!! that could have been an airlocker on the cruiser

Have just done a real cheap fix to this problem, used a valve that [ i think ] was for the air-con system :D
Works just as well the $270.00 one.Image
