Im thinking about throwing a set on my Mu.

have you looked in to maxxis bighorns 4 price thay seem to be a good option

I run the serengeti's happy as with them, they are a second set for offroad only so not sure about the k's you get out of them. have seen good review in aussie 4x4 mag some time ago.

Check out the Kuhmo KL71. I got the 33x12.5x15 from Rick at 4wd Accessories. 08004WDACC Great tyre ask Albundy he has them as well

Mongrels no longer available so you cant replace if you damage one, also a etead, only good if you got all the same cases from one style brand.
Maxxis bighorn are great on and off road - designed and used for baja racing for maxxis sponsored trucks.

If you are going to run it on the road a bit I would stay clear of the Goodyear MTR.

I have 30x9.5s on my terrano and they are way to soft in the side wall. It wallows around all over the place.

Have run other mud tyres on it and didnt have the same probs. Used to have Durangos but you cant get them here anymore. :cry:

I got close on 60000k out of them.

Thanks for the advice.

The sumitomos are a good price, farmers seem to love them.
Not so keen on the kumhos purely because of the cost. I thought about the maxxis bighorns... or the silverstones rick was talking to me about.

Anyone know where i can score some 15x8s? I heard the land cruiser offset suits the mu.

wheels and tyres,
Body blocks,
Bashplate,
extended shackles and torsion wind,
get snorkel on,
diff breathers up,
wheel bearing.

Then Ill be beating the crap out of it!

What do you run them on? I am on my second set of 33's on a safari and have no problems at all on the road

Have you tryed KATS for the BFG,pretty sure they would be same price if not cheaper than the Yokohama MT.

I've found Goodyear MTR's better than most on the road. Wearing well too. Not a great mud tyre but really good on any firmer surface. I haven't got enough horses to clear them in the mud.... The Maxxis Bighorns seem to clear better in the mud, but don't know how well they wear... Don't write off the BFG's just because they cost a bit more. They have about 5mm more tread than the others so you probably get the value out of them over the life of the tyre. And they are a really good tyre!

Ive run as low as 9psi with my 33x12.5 MT/Rs on 8" rims, the sidewalls barely bagged out at all. (Surf by the way)
The sidewalls are the hardest ive seen, they hold shape really well.

Round town I have them between 20 and 35psi depending on if Im heading offroad, they are good, little noise, good grip and with low pressure they take up bumps very well.

So far Ive had a mixed experience, the day i got them I took them into deep peat bogs and they weren't as good as i hoped. But neither were chains, Mongrels and tired swampers.

Since then ive been mostly in pine and loose drier dirts and Im seriously impressed.

I cant speak of wear as ive had them only 2 months and i really dont care about wear.

When i bought them a wrecker (auto dismantler :roll:

) rallied the deal for me at a good price ($1200 fitted). He swears by them, told me stories of people he knows getting 60+kkm out of a set.

Otherwise there is a set of Scorpion Muds here $225 a tyre.

Thanks for all of your advice, unfortunately, things hava changed and Im moving out and renting a place with only my income , not two! So the tyres will have to wait for a bit longer...

For your info tho, I done an online quote with tonys tyre service, they called me everyday trying to better the deal.

I said i needed rims aswell, no prob they said, $90-$100 each, bugger that I said, my mate got his for 75 a rim, they called me back saying they could match that, and have an offer of;

4x33in wrangler mtrs and 4x 15x8s for $1400, I thought not a bad deal!

Just beware tho, if you do the online quote thing, they will call you everyday to try and get you to buy. They called me at 8 am on showday! So just leave email addy!

Not a bad price. I'm looking for tyres at the moment for the new hippo. I see the new Kumho KL71 are on TM for $320 plus gst for a 33" which seems ok

Just over the phone! I done an online enquiry, then they called me up and negotiated a better deal, dont need anything in writing!

Mentioned that someone had a price of $1400, the guy said it was very cheap and had to check with the local rep to see if they could do that price. Never heard back.

Was hoping it was an emailed price so I could get you to print it off for me :wink:

I have found them great on the road. What pressure where you running in them. I would say that that is you problem. I have 33's and run them at 45pound and they don't wollow at all.

Really mine start to bag alot sooner than that. I run them about 20 off road on my surf.
