40 series fibreglass parts road legal?

Post by gizmo »

I've noticed that you can get pretty much every panel for the 40 series as fibreglass. I've been wondering about which fibreglass part is road legal or if there is any that is not?

In particular the windscreen frame and the rear quarter panels.

cheers,
thomas

i wouldn,t think it would be a problem as i,m pretty sure that corvette bodys are made entirely from fibreglass and they have no trouble getting warrants

I had two glass gards and a glass bonit on my old crusier. The only thing i had to do for a WOF was put some bonit pins in the front corners insted if the standed rubber latches. Glass panels are grate, they are light weght and easy to fix!

Its common for classic cars to have repo fiberglass panels
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Hi there. does this also include the fibreglass tub?. Is it just a matter of drilling out the body number tags and re riviting them onto a fibreglass tub?. I always wondered about that too. - cheers Mike.

The panels are definitely fine as not much is structural on that car. I am not so sure about the tub though... I heard this issues somewhere but can't remember where and what the details were...

I checked with Southern Four wheel drive in CHCH today, and he said that the warrant issues with fibreglass parts are:
The door hinges: need to be reinforced at the tub and the doors
The rear quarter panels: as the seatbelts are attached to them

Otherwise, no issues with windscreen frame or other bits.
