S3 landrover overdrive??

Post by landie »

theres a couple of these on trade me,just wondering do you just bolt these to back of transfer case and away you go?driving the landie at the mo only seems to sit on around 50-60 km max feels like its going to rattle to bits :? (ringing its neck)will the overdrive give it a higher cruizing speed than origanal? :) How can you tell if they are on good nick?sorry for so many qeustions just a newbie.thanks guys

As far as I know they do
Another option is to change your diff ratio what engine/transfer box you got? what series Landy is it? LWB/SWB? salisbury rear?
Over drive will help top speed its like a 5th gear you have to manualy engage via a lever.
Just check for obvious signs of wear they can be noisy anyway

You could but selecting 4wd with 2 different ratios would be dangerous
I just got hold of a salisbury that Im going to put in my rangie its 3.54 which would gear you up alot better
and I'm after 4.7 or so which is problerly what you have
I also have spare axels and hubs and stubs that are no use to me.
Where abouts are you?

I have only had 1 series landy
A 85 stage 1 V8 ex-army and that was enough for me it was fun to drive but for the sake of my kidneys I had to sell it
I use to live in Palmy, I travel to Shannon most weekends and go 4x4ing and hunting up the Shannon dams will be up there this weekend.
If you want to lift it do a spring over conversion

to fit an o/drive to a series 111 you need to remove the plate at the rear of the gearbox. Behind it you will find a gear that has to be removed and then the o/drive will fit on and bolt up. You will then have to fit the gear change lever etc and linkages to allow you to engadge the over drive. The whole process should take about 2 hours. If you purchase the o/drive try to get the pattern that locates were you drill the whole in the trans tunnel for the lever. I fitted these o/drives on two of my Landies(before i turned to Toyota) and they turn them into a resonably comfortable road runner :D

over drive

Post by pradoman »

My dad had a fairy over drive in his S2 that had a holden 186 in it, and his over drive gave him a 25% drop in rev in all gear,As you can use it in any gear he used it in low box it was quite good it you wanted a gear between 1st & 2nd or 3rd & 4th it wood give you like a gear and 1/2.

Cheers Pradoman
