It all depends.... What sort of offroad driving do you intend? And what sort of road manners do you want? BFG All Terrains are a good compromise - with a leaning towards on-road use. If you need more of a mud tyre, but won't be on tracks where sidewall damage is lkikely, then Maxxis Buckshots or Hankook M/T's are a reasonably cheap option, but will be a bit noisier on the road and not great on wet roads. If you need good sidewall protection, you'll pay a bit more. Endless options....

I inherited a set of Hankook at's. they go good onroad, great in the sand and peeled up the mudslide at Thompsons in the pissing down rain... had never considered using them before, but cant really fault em.

Just sand and stuff nothing complex cause i am after 33" tyres a phoned a few tyre shops they said they only had mud 33" and they would be very bad on road

even though it will only really be driven in the summer i still want a nice tyre on the road with the least amount of noise

I run BFG Muds permanently and do a fair bit of trips between NI towns. I don't find the noise excessive. I had moved from BFG ATs.

To me the whole noise thing is all relative till you get into some serious offroad tyres. Yes muds will have more noise than road tyres, but then you are not driving a sedan as well. See if you can share a ride with somebody who is running the tyres you are interested and what sort of noise they create.
