I've still got a few mods to do to the radiator before im happy with it. so water it will stay I didnt get it enough done on it in the weekend to finalise the radiator.

Picked up the electric fan shroud on thursday plus rear axle bearings and rear brake pads from supralux. Set about putting the shroud on yesterday, got half way through working out where and how to mount. didnt get as far as i wanted to, infact i wanted to start the surf yesterday but that didnt happen. Spent most of today mounting the elect fan to the shroud. Turned out much closer fit but I still have a removable fan, shroud and radiator all in one piece - 4 bolts and it all pops out together
also changed the oil today. put the rest of the air intake back on and rung toyota asking how much a new turbo pressure sensor was. Answer i got back (ex japan $600) led me to super cheap to buy some glue/cement to repair it myself.
See if we get to start it tomorrow.

another example of what happens when a scudo lands while pulling lots of revs, pity the front diff is not as strong as the back,might have to put the hilux axle in now cause i am sick of changing these. vaughan

$40 bucks for the shroud and a couple of days of mounting, unmounting , remounting till I got it right. the fan sits right on the face of the radiator pretty much, There is just enough room between the fan and pully to slip v-belts past making belt changing easy. Transmission cooler sits right behind fan.

Thats exactly where mine broke. Considered a steel one? If you can find one that doesnt cost the earth

first one ive done like that, others ones have been spider gears ,crownwheel, pinion,smashed one out at drivers side,getting low on spare diff parts for the front now,know what you mean about the steel ones ,now it is time for a hilux axle and 3 link front.cheers

I didnt have a lot of choice, if you look at the other photos youll see i have 5mm of room before the fan hits the engine pully. As long as i create a vacuum for sucking at low speeds and flow through at road speeds (which it hasnt got yet) then it should be all it needs. That fan is off a falcon v8 i think (shane correct me if im wrong) and it moves a lot of air. Didnt feel like i achieved a lot this weekend putting it in as it was so fiddly and time consuming but im happy with it.
Invested in a wireless router, Now that loinfruit has gone to Darwin and I have his puter, this gives me one for the shed for research etc when working on "stuff" . need to put in outside aerial cos its a tin shed and that attenuates the hell out of the signal.

When loinfruit went to Oz, I inherited a big traveling table saw, router, set of blunt chisels, planer, stuff like that from his trade, I thought that the days of making shit out of wood were well past. Guess ones first trade follows one around.

Yea not too bad.. Walked from sunrise until 5. 30 pm (not non stop of coasre) on saturday and half the days friday and sunday. Climbed to just over 2000m. Not much snow leaft up there now!!

Having the fan that close with a good suround well work great,I'd be very surprized if that doesnt keep it cool,as long as the fan doesnt touch the rad when runing.
You could try some stick on foam to help seal the surround along the top tank area,looks like there is a gap but hard to tell in pics.
Mike re- your fan job:- I spent $500 doing the same as you have got there and all I will say is GOOD LUCK , hope it is more successful than mine. I have a nice thermal one now and have trouble getting it up to temperature.
Mike and Shane, I think the trouble with a very short cowling like you have got there is it acts like a dam (block) and you don't get the flow of air that a longer cowling with fan at the end creates. A good slog up the hill will soon tell you, you will want your fan to kick in early in the heat cycle or the heat sink will beat you.
I didnt get it enough done on it in the weekend to finalise the radiator.
