Air filter housing

Post by jumper »

I am thinking of putting a housing around a top stack air filter, what sort of gap between the filter and the housing is needed? which idea would be better?

In my uneducated opinion I believe that to prevent any restriction to the air flow your inlet pipe needs to be the same size as the outlet and then I would ensure that gap is at least half of the cross section of the inlet.

Your 2nd pic is probably the better way to go with gap 1 and 2 set to 1/3rd of the cross section.I think that this is better as you have air flowing across the top of the filter to get in the other side.

This would be a minim.
You could go to a gap equal to the inlet.
I do not believe that there is any advantage going bigger than the inlet.

Happy to stand corrected
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
