If this second run goes ahead do you think they will be at a similar price? If so I'll be keen as all heck.

One question though, do you think they would be a bit too heavy for a 3Dr Escudo?

The second run will go ahead, It should be close to the first run price.
You would only need a 8000lb winch and thats 29kg's but it would be lighter if you put on synthetic rope as the weight is taken with wire rope on

I am going to wait until the first batch of winches arrive and if everyone is happy then we will start the second run.

At the same time I may have synthetic rope 11mm with a 10.5 tonne breaking strain for $5.00 per metre I will run that at the same time

Cheers

I think about 35 metres should fill the drum, They are sending out a 35 metre sample of 11mm and I have ordered a 12000lbs winch so I will know how it fits on .

I have just been talking to Runva , "about five minutes ago" Only some of the winches have arrived
The bulk arrive on the 24 th, I did not know this, As I was talking to him he said he was doing invoices to the people he had to contact so every one will be contacted in the next few days
"SO DONT WORRY" :D

It looks like as he said after customs it may be 2 weeks before they are released, It looks like somewhere around the 3rd-7th DEC.
Sorry to put everone wrong, He is going to contact me when we can pick up the winches

BUT!!! we still have to set up a system to get them down south

Thats a good question, How it's made.

Its made of old rubbish bin lids welded together with flax-radio-active isatobes, Then stored underground for 10m years, "BUT" , Then it's plated by nuted 80 year old females until it's given state.

THATS WHAT I WAS TOLD

I SHOULD RECEIVED THE SAMPLE WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS

KEEP YOU INFORMED

Winches and winch rope

Post by minefield »

I will be setting up a new order for the winches in the new year,

As for the sythetic rope yes that has arrived and I think it's Amsteel blue good stuff and if it's not Amsteel Blue it's a bloody good copy , The only thing wrong is I wanted 11mm as a sample but got 12mm at least it wont break the cost was 5.57 nz per metre plus freight I am going to get them to send me a price list for all sizes then I will come back and see what everyone wants to do.

I was down in CH CH at xmas and showed a sample to Vince-pigfrm he is going to show it to his club members to see what they think , The people I have showed it to think it's great

I'm definatly looking at rope preferably 11mm. Did 35m fit onto your winch?

What is the breaking strain on the 11mm? Must be somewhere around the 21000 - 22000lbs mark
Probably a little overkill on 12000lbs winches. 9 or 10mm would do just fine even allowing for a reduction in strength where it is spliced.
Very good price though. :thumright: Put me down as a definite for an order once all firmed up.

Not 100% sure, but lets hope it is more than the winches can pull.
Metal cable has different strengths depending on the way the cable is wound. There is more than one way to make a cable, a fact which I didn't know until recently, they all looked the same to me.

Edit,
Metal CAN have different strengths depending on the way the cable is wound.
Of course it depends on the materials (different kinds of steel) it is made of as well.

I only know what I have ben told 10.6 tonns breaking strain for the11mm I have a peice of Amsteel Blue and the one from china and to me they both look the same.

You have to rember china has come a long way in the past few years, They are now have the main contract for air bus parts and I think you only have to look at the way the winches are made and ask "pigfmr" what he thinks

Just a suggestion Mike / Graham.

How about starting a new thread for the possible second run of these winches? The two current threads are well patronised by those sorting out their winches and set-ups from the first shipment.

By the way, congratulations to those who got in on the first order, and for supporting the sterling efforts of the guys doing all the hard work of putting it together. I've enjoyed (enviously) watching the whole process come together, and now the winches are here it's proved to be a complete winner for everyone!
