The new Hippo.........

Post by DaveM »

Well, I'm slowly getting info on what mods should be done to the new Safari, first will be a 3" lift, 33" Kumho's, snorkel, and possibly a Smart Bar for the front.

Will post progress pics over the next few weeks, but heres a shot of the old and new Hippo

Just spent 12k that would have been for goodies, on the house
Picking up a set of 33" Wranglers in the morning, and getting my 3" coils put in next week, and getting a Smart Bar (ugly, but for under $600, it'll do the job).

As soon as I get these on, I'll post pics. Oh, and then theres the $2000 I have to spend to get that darn glow plug out

Are there many restrictions getting 4X4's into Oz? I wonder what they are..
In the next few years we hope to be moving over. I'd be gutted if I couldn't take my 40 over.

Have a look at this... http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... .aspx#5.01

Depending where you're going it you'll probably need it engineered (you do in NSW) and I don't think you can have SPOA or over a certain amount of lift in QLD.

Not 100% sure as it's been a while since i was there

Could you not get it ticked off in a different state then jump back to the one with more restrictions or do you have to have it registered to an address in the state you get it ticked off in. Often wondered this. Must be some legalish, way around.

Apparently not, even if you live in Sydney, where rules are fairly relaxed, and drive through Qld on holiday, I'm told the cops can still issue you with a defect notice, as the vehicle may be illegal in that state

Looks like they have their bases covered in that respect then. Driving through on holiday and getting a ticket is a bit bloody rough though.
Shows that NZ isn't all that bad in some ways still eh!
